This is fantastic news Dan! Truly happy for you both!Today Diana had her surgery. Everything went well.
I continue to hope and pray for her swift recovery and complete cure, Dan.Today Diana had her surgery. Everything went well.
I don’t know… you are good at so many things, and I have seen the kind of meal you manage to put together when campingunfortunately I am NOT a good cook LOL ...
Glad everything is going well so farI remember as a young boy growing up in Argentina having to climb to some challenging places in the "Sierras de Cordoba" to bring back ferns for my mother and grandmother who were obsessed with them. We would come back from a camping trip with Dad's old Chevy and small trailer loaded with ferns lol
Today Diana had her surgery. Everything went well.
The surgeon talked to me as he came out of the operating room and was pleased with how it went. He told me ( as he had already explained to us prior to surgery ) that there is small chance she may need a second surgery pending biopsies from the lymph nodes and more imaging studies.
She is comfortably resting now and pain free. Follow up with both surgeon and oncologist in about 3 weeks.
A day at a time.
That’s what our deck looks like by the end of the day. I think they are about done around here also. It actually wasn’t as bad this year as it has been in the past. The squirrels have really been going to town shelling the hickory nuts. On our daily walk, there's a row of three or four of hickory trees, some around here call them shagbarks. For a couple weeks, every time we walked under them, the squirrels were dropping pieces of shells on us. It looks like they're about done now.

While she was having her surgery I drove to a small knife shop near the hospital that specializes in Japanese chefs/kitchen knives.
Some amazing stuff there ... unfortunately I am NOT a good cook LOL ... so I went to check the little section of pocket knives in a corner
A small Higo knife caught my eye and I am quite happy it followed me home
Hand made in Japan and designed by a group of young people combining old traditions and designs with a bit more modern appeal and art as well.
A part of the knife depicts mount Fuji in an almost three dimensional way with the waves in front of it. The larger wave was also made into a bottle opener.
Hand forged in white carbon steel layered in between softer iron.
Perhaps one day I'll take a "walk in nature" in that beautiful part of the world, one never knows.

Beautiful scenery. The river looks like a great place to cast a line and see what bites, all the while hoping nothing does that would spoil the relaxation.
Fantastic news. Prayer continuedToday Diana had her surgery. Everything went well
Most of my fishing trips are VERY relaxing…cast a line and see what bites, all the while hoping nothing does that would spoil the relaxation.

Thank you Ray !I am very happy about your news of Diana. Let's hope there is no need for more than just gaining strength and using her great spirit for fun and adventure rather than ongoing healing.
Though for the life of me I can't see Mt. Fuji in that graphic.
Funny that an hour off in the city leads you to a knife shop.![]()

Here is my interpretation. You will never "unsee" it afterwards
The raised spine of the blade makes the top of Mount Fuji.
They polished the "peak" a little for the snow effect. The 3 lines "ridges" stamped on the blade close to the top complete Mount Fuji.
The beginning of the polished bevel simulate water at the bottom.
In front of it, as part of the bronze handle there is a small wave and more to the right a gigantic tsunami size, cookiemonster eating wave
that is also part of the bottle opener.

It came very sharp and after a few passes on my Sharpmaker became VERY sharp. I think that it will easily split hair if I take it to my guided system with some diamond paste stropping.
I think I am really going to like the Japanese white carbon steel. Reading up on it. They have a "blue" steel as well. I may have to indulge in a Japanese kitchen knife and become a better cook
( half of my legs are hairless now ... isn't one suppose to test sharpness on one's arms ? ... NOT legs ? lol)
Traditional knives are "comfort food" for the soul![]()
Thank you for the update Dan, I'm sorry for missing this until now (threads sometimes rise and fall while I'm asleep). Wishing Diana a full and complete recovery
I like your Japanese knife, very cool![]()
LikeCelloDan , my weekend activities involved Canada Geese and an orange bucket, but in a completely different environment, and I didn’t get pictures of either…
The view from the river bank as I went hunting pawpaws yesterday:

I knew it was a bit early in the season, but sometimes you can find a few ripe ones this time of year. I found some that were OK, but not perfectly ripe. It is sort of like eating an underripe banana at that stage. The knife is 9 inches long, for scale:

Went fishing this morning a little upstream from there, above the falls:

The river was very low, and I could get way out into the middle of it hopping from rock to rock, and across heavily vegetated islands:

Somehow caught this little smallmouth while fishing for catfish:
