Photos A Walk in Nature

The practical choice would be one of the Vics but I am drawn to the camper.
So I had to advance and shorten my trip just a little due to unforeseen circumstances. I am camping tonight and tomorrow night, and parked a little further upstream, making today’s ride just 20 miles. I did walk up Maryland Heights today though, which I had originally planned for tomorrow. Cell service is bad here so I won’t post pics until Monday evening probably, but I wanted to keep CelloDan CelloDan up to date as promised. :D:thumbsup:

I like seeing that you have friends Dan.

Thank you Ray ! :D

I could see those photos of the birds in hand being used in a wildlife magazine or as a stock photo.
Those little feathered friends are the highlights of our walks :)

Incredible pics Dan 😊👍

Not a walk in nature however one more walk in Diana’s journey, our journey battling cancer.

Just dropped my ❤️ for her third radiation treatment … 12 more to go ( we are driving daily to Ottawa)

Posting this while awaiting her to exit through that door she is now going in.

Chemo and surgery is behind.
After radiation is finished she’ll continue with immunotherapy drug infusions every 3 weeks until April as well as starting long term hormone therapy in pild form to help prevent a recurrence.

You go kick butt champ !
I ❤️ you!

The weather was perfect, I stopped and talked to so many interesting people along the way, everything was pretty much just perfect.

Confluence of the Shenandoah (left) and Potomac rivers, and the town of Harper’s Ferry:

No fall colors yet, but still a pretty view.

So great to hear the weather was perfect and you had a great time :)
The box turtle is very cool, and always good to see your faithful Okapi companion
Nice to see lots of green still in your neck of the woods :)
Lockhouses and canal always get two :thumbsup: from me

The first picture showing the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers had me searching for a harmonica recording of one of my Harmonica heroes, Buddy Greene, so I am playing " Oh Shenandoah " as I type this :)

edit: the song mentions the Missouri river so most likely the song and the Shenandoah river are not related but I am googling it right now lol :D

For those who are interested and want to do some Googling, the history of Harpers Ferry is fascinating, if bloody. It was the scene of John Brown’s famous raid, one of the major incidents leading up to the Civil War. In this picture, you can see the old firehouse of the long-destroyed armory in the town, which became known as John Brown’s fort (I believe the building has been moved from its original location):

The town changed hands a couple of times during the war, I think, and was largely destroyed. My picture overlooking the confluence was taken not far from the site of a union artillery battery.

After the civil war, the town was slowly rebuilt, and has been primarily just a tourist destination ever since.

I was surprised to see Opinels in one of the gift shops - the cashier had no idea what they were when I inquired about them:

Shenandoah! Now i know how it looks like. I just could imagine from this Bill Frisell's tune.

Dan.
Now that Wikipedia has made me a scholar of these matters 🤣😂, it appears the “Shenandoah” of the song may be referencing a native chief from what is now New York state, and the origins of the name of the river are unclear, but may have something to do with the name of a different native tribe from the locality. Maybe the name was similar-sounding and since Shenandoah was well-known, that’s what the settlers called it.
