Heading out the mouth of the Monocacy and into the Potomac, standing up and using a 14’ pole for propulsion:
The structure there is an aqueduct which once carried the C&O canal. The pole made for easy going, even upstream against a moderate current. There is a huge area of exposed rock which forms the riverbed here, and the water was only a couple of feet deep. I poled my way to the tip of Cox Island and back:
Tied off to a submerged tree trunk to do some fishing for a little while:
I had to be home early, so I didn’t stay too long and didn’t catch anything, despite seeing a large catfish swim past me in the shallow water.
Poling the boat reminded my that the other day at my parents’ house I saw a picture of me punting on the Cam (look it up) in the mid 1980’s (on one of my visits to the English side of my family). My aunt must have taken the picture and sent it to my mom.
