Photos A Walk in Nature

One of my favourite dog walking spots (and Ellie's) with the Campsie Fells and Dumgoyne Hill in the background.

Beautiful vistas ! Ellie looks like she is having a great time too :)
I just watched a couple YouTube videos of folks walking/jogging around the Campsie Fells and Dumgoyne Hill.
I am enjoying the latest posts from across the pond.

I pedaled my bike 10 miles to the C&O canal Sunday, then another 18 or so leisurely miles along the canal to this campsite:

Very nice my friend :)
Minimalism at its best .
Last summer was my first time going camping alone. I must say that I was a bit hesitant at first, even nervous if I am truthful.
I soon become addicted to it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and your post brought memories and made me smile :)

What brand of stove is that ? How do you like it ?

I’m not sure of the brand, I will have to go back into my Big River shopping history and look it up.

It takes a little practice to use correctly, but once you get the hang of it you can cook pretty well with just a pile of twigs. It works best if you already have a campfire going - I use some tongs to grab a couple of coals from the fire and put that in, then use twigs to get a flame going. When you do it correctly, the flame makes a pattern like from a gas burner almost. Its all about the right size fuel and air flow. For simmering things I put bigger chunks of wood in it which burn more slowly.

If you want to heat up just a single cup of water you can use a solid fuel tablet - that worked just fine for me in almost-freezing temperatures yesterday morning.

Edit:
Found it. Search for “Ohuhu Stainless Steel Backpacking Stove”.

Thanks Dan CelloDan CelloDan , plenty more to come.
The hill itself is not too strenuous at just over 400m and well worth the climb with magnificent views of Loch Lomond and surrounds.
The country park where I was walking is interesting. It has two old castles and was used as a location for the film, Outlaw King about Robert the Bruce. I will post some photos in time.

Thanks, it was. I had only a half-formed plan when I left, and was determined not to stick to it. I still got up before dawn each day, but the first morning I relit the fire, lounged around until after sunup, made a big breakfast, then cleaned and packed up slowly. I gathered a bunch of wood and kindling for the next visitor, and didn’t leave the campsite until nearly ten.

Folks seem to be very friendly and talkative when outdoors on a nice day, and I stopped and had 10- to 15-minute conversations with at least a half-dozen other bikers, runners, walkers, bird-watchers, and what-not.
Plans are good as long as you can go with the flow as things change.

Just noticed you added the name of the stove, thanks Tom  , found them on the Canadian big river site.
You also mentioned almost freezing temps in the am, I hope you kept warm my friend.
I was a bit cold on my last trip and things were no where near freezing ( but my sleeping bag was not adequate really)

A picture inside my little tent ... just because I got reminiscing LOL 😄

Temps were only in the mid 30s at night, so not too bad, and the wind was very light. The couple of nights prior to my trip we had a hard freeze, with temps dipping into the 20s and windy - glad I dodged that. I was nice and toasty in my sleeping bag - getting out of it in the morning was the real challenge!

I have spent plenty of nights outside with no shelter and in far worse conditions, but I’m not sure I would voluntarily go camping in such conditions, not anymore at least…:)

CelloDan CelloDan : I looked up the weather data for the nearest location those nights, and it only dipped to around 39 or so (4deg C) - so a little warmer than I thought (and felt)…

I couldn't leave my house yesterday and was getting cabin fever.
So I went outside to my garden and sat in the drizzle, not all adventures have to be momentous.

Then I tried out my new solo cooking pot,it seems much more efficient than my old army mug, you can store a gas cannister in it great idea (though its not as tough).

I like to use things from my travels the coaster is from Granada in Spain this year, its one of the the designs from the Alhambra.
The swan vesta matchbox cover I got from a antique shop years ago its realy neat.

In the end I used that knife all day including vegetable preparation for a stew, where I found substituting Jim Beam for brown ale in a recipe (as that's all you have alcohol wise)doesn't work.

On another note it was very hard to leave Granada I have never seen so many stunning woman in one place.

😄

Reminds me of a time I was making a pot of chili and decided to try some peanut butter in it (its a thing). Apparently one is supposed to use a tablespoon of the stuff. Or maybe a teaspoon. A cup is too much. Way too much. After about three spoonsful I threw the rest out. It was awful 😝

I travelled a bit further than my garden today, sorry if the pictures are mixed up.

I came across a abandoned a corn crop, eaten by birds I think?,I found 2 uneaten husks under one plant so put them in my pack.

There was a lot of trees down all of the same type, they looked rotten from the inside.
Some had shattered when hitting the ground, very dangerous if you where close by,it made me wary.

It was dull and overcast but not cold, the sun appeared behind cloud as the day ended.

I dressed the corn while my coffee cooled, one was rotten the big one looked OK.
Then I made a fundamental error trying to sit the spey blade into the trunk for a photo.
Stupid mistake it closed on me I was luck to only get a nip,it wouldnt of happened in normal use of the knife.
I always have plasters in my pack and a couple in my wallet.

My coffee tasted good I like my new setup.
On returning home I added a bigger torch to my pack as its getting dark at 16.00 nowadays.

I really like my Remington the action is getting smoother and smoother and the blade choice is perfect.
