Photos A Walk in Nature

Back to the ice trails this afternoon. Got there just before sunset with my daughters. What a difference a day made temp wise. Yesterday they had canceled to preserve the ice as it was close to 0 Celsius, today it was - 10 when we got there and - 14 when we got back in the car.
We had the place to ourselves pretty much.

The ice was very good , almost perfect. An 8/10 lets say. They had flooded it last night and the whole 3 km loop was open.
I could not believe the huge improvement the new runners made on the smooth and hard ice. I felt I was in full control and it felt good to go faster too.

I think I may have upset my daughters slightly showing off my speed … it looked like they were trying to keep up with me now ... they don't like it when their old man beats them at anything lol :D

Have you seen this knife before :)

No worries, no way I am releasing this one :)
Although sometime I feel like releasing my offspring that can be seen skating in the background LOL ... nah, just kidding,... they are good kids  :). I can not believe that my oldest just got accepted into university.

The no release sign is because in the summer they stock that large pond with trout for people to fish. You bring your catch to the entrance and they clean it for you and charge you by the pound.

It felt good to have a hot coffee to warm up afterwards.

That sure looks like fun.

When I was in the Amy we went to a German outdoor rink, non of us could skate we where all very young.

We wobbled/crashed/cursed around trying to impress the German girls (no chance) while skilled young German kids would skate fast at us trying to get us to fall over (which we did).

Schnapps and mulled wine was available in copious amounts, which eased the pains.

In the end we invented a new sport, we would try and go as fast as we could in a straight line.

Then when our boot tips hit the wooden barrier (if we hadn't fallen again) somersault over it into a snow bank.

Happy days 😁

Thanks for sharing Jonny ! Sounds like my kind of sport 😁

It reminded of a fella I met about 10 years ago on the "Ridd-ee-oh" canal ;)

He told me he was originally from South America, and after many years of fighting winter and being miserable he decided to "embrace" it LOL .
" Yeah right" I thought ;)

Anyways, I manage to get a video clip of him doing his best to embrace winter 🤣

PS: any resemblance to myself is purely coincidental :p:cool:

Remember Dean Martin said.

You ain’t drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on.😂

Caught 15 trout in 2 days. Stocked trout, but the kids sure had fun fishing.

There's a knife in this picture.

No knife in this picture (in my pocket of course), but the Sierras are sure pretty in October during deer season. I'd call it a successful hunt even if we the only shots we took were with our cameras.

Beautiful pictures !!! :)
This type of scenes bring back memories of my childhood and the "Sierras the Cordoba" in Argentina.

Merry Christmas :)

Cracking report.

Walking with Hector the reluctant dog,the only dog I know that doesn’t respond when you offer to take him for a walk.

He wanted to turn back after 5 minutes 😂

I didn’t have long as dinner was coming.

This area is new to me it’s between south london and Brighton.

Absolutely love that pic Dan  Merry Christmas my friend :)
Thank you Jack ! , to you as well and all the best in 2022

LOL , we may have to review his membership in the " A walk in Nature" secret society LOL
Cute pup :)

Good to see Hector "embracing" the outdoors lol :)
My daughter was looking over my shoulder and was very intrigued by the old towers in the background.
What are those towers? Where is that ? she exclaimed.

I took a second look and answered her rather casually

"Well of course my dear, those are the Ruins of Brambletye House , near to Forest Row in East Sussex, Great Britain"

I saw your walking companion a few times here Tom and today I spend sometime reading about the history of the Okapi and its locking mechanism.
Feels good to have regular companion for our walks which reminds me to take my good old faithful ebony lamb on my next walk as I have neglected it lately.

Today we took my in-laws that are visiting us from Florida on a small walk at the bird sanctuary. Temps were a balmy 0 Celsius but to them it was extreme cold. My mother in law told us that we live in the north pole LOL

My daughter took this pics with her phone. She did not want to shared them with me because they were destined for her Instagram but I told her no worries " no one in the porch is on Instagram, we are too old for that" :D LOL

No knife pics on her phone though :)

You've set up a camera IN YOUR FEEDER Dan?  Very nice! Can I share it in a chickadee thread on another forum?
Such a perfect photo.

I laugh with you about INSTAGRAM (and FB) who needs it? 😉 Yes, her photos are all safe with this crowd.

I went out for a little off trail hike today. My mission was to find some chaga. I have ground my big stash from last year so now to build up another horde. I know of 2 really EXCELLENT sources but one is more than 20' up the tree and the other beauty is in a front yard of a stranger. Have to get my courage up to knock on their door. The one way up is the biggest I have ever seen in the wild - same size and shape a Joe Namath's head 😃 Man it's a big one.

Today though just a bunch of small ones after a 3 miles of traipsing through the woods. No matter, was a lovey afternoon and I didn't come home empty handed.

My total haul ~ not too much but still, lots of tea and coffee augment here after I grind it and a great reason to be out in the woods.
