Looks as if my MAM is my only fungus-finder.....

Perfect timing CelloDan CelloDan . I was out looking for antlers last spring and while searching around a big beaver dam area I came across this toppled cherry tree. This section was about 25 ft long and was completely debarked and full of teeth marks. I’ve never seen a tree stripped like this before!

The knife is a White Iron Hunter by Karl Andersen JS (Andersen Forge) in W2 steel and spalted maple.

That's just amazing  , both the beaver's artwork on that cherry and that spalted maple on the knife that is just incredible !
I dream of finding a big chunk of spalted maple like that to turn a bowl on my lathe.

Speaking of wood harvesting CelloDan CelloDan CelloDan CelloDan ;) thought you all might be interested in what you can do with

a sharp Laguiole ...

LOL Ray, the beavers don't stand a chance against your Laguiole :)

As an aside, I did not know what your old avatar was until you revealed it was a polypore mask … which I had to google because I had no a clue what a polypore was.
Now every time I see one in the forest I think of you :D:thumbsup:

I was surprised too to see several porch members take pics with them … is soo comforting to know that I am not alone in this world lol 😁

More beaver action, this time in winter … those rascals never rest !

Polypores have been compelling me since I was a kid. So many different forms, artful colors and shapes. Here in Maine we don't have real big ones. As I understand, in the Pacific Northwest my pizza size polypores are only single slice compared to the ones found out there. I will collect them forever. I have more of those than I have knives

Glad you think of me every now and then. 🙂

I'm fond of beavers too!

I saw this while out on a walk in December and posted it in the “Lounge” thread specifically for you, and you never even noticed…😄
