Good morning all.

Since we all utilize this forum to both express our view on our hobbies and to try out cool new toys I thought I'd share a recent experience with a member here. We've all have good experiences mostly but also some bad. In my ~5 years on the forum, I have not encountered this level of batcrap crazy ever. Hence why I am posting this up.

ADDENDUM:
Given the lengths that this user has gone and additional information presented (in this thread and through private channels), I am posting Keith's information below. He can, should he have the temerity, come on this thread and tell his side of things. If he makes things right with other users and publishes an apology, I will consider taking this information down. Otherwise, I suggest this thread be posted in the Hall of Shame section for posterity.

I am going to post a long version (highly detailed) and a short version (with just the relevant bits.) Please keep in mind that anything posted can be substantiated with emails between us.

Just to give a bit of context, I counted the sheer number of emails and he's sent me no less then 102 in the last 4 days (at the time of this posting.)

Short Version:
I agreed to a trade with a newcomer to our great forum. He begged to do a trade and I acquiesced out of trying to welcome him (possibly misguided.) He sent me a broken knife that was not as described. When I called him out, he went to a new level of crazy with threats of having Navy Seals come and collect "his" Chaves. I am sent him his stuff back earlier today.

Long version:
I recently posted a Chaves 228 for trade (link here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ADV-Spyderco-Cuscadi-Sniper-Bladeworks-Chaves
). I was contacted by a new member with zero feedback. He offered me a Seb 25 in trade. He described the Seb as having been carried once or twice but in ideal shape with all docs / accessories. I was interested but didn't feel that I would do this as a straight trade. He offered me a variety of things (mostly fixed blades.) As this isn't what I am generally looking for I turned it down at first.

This began the first tidal wave of emails --he kept offering more and more for the Chaves. Ultimately, I told him that I'd prefer cash to any / all of the other random stuff. He gave me a sob story about being laid off and not having funds. Then he began to tell him about how the Chaves is his grail and damn near begged to do the trade (again, I can provide email proof.) I felt bad for the guy and figured I'd do something nice for a new forum member. I mean, we've all been new to something. We agreed on terms and that he would send first. He sent his end out on Tuesday and I got it yesterday.

I came home last night and opened up the package. To be fair, everything other then the sebenza was as described. The sebenza, however, was another story entirely. Firstly, the grease and cloth were missing. I can normally overlook this and just move on (we are talking about $20-30 in value.) However, the seb itself was a complete disaster. The Ti had been scotchbrited badly. More importantly, the pivot screw slides back and forth. Its worth mentioning that this does not translate into side to side play. The pivot screw / nut freely moves side to side. Its not that the nut got loose as there isn't any thread showing. This is likely as a result of some abuse or tinkering with the seb.

Obviously, I contact the other side of the trade and ask him what the hell is going on. His response (in 4-5 emails) was something approximating "I got it this way" and "send it to CRK, they will fix it." This is obviously not acceptable. I politely told him that I'd be sending this back to reverse out the trade. This started a 12 email long response spanning the gamut of "you're being mean / unfair" to "you're dishonest in not wanting to follow through" to, my favorite, "I am going to call the cops and can I have your phone#." Since random idle threats don't bother me, I sent him the tracking number for the return and told him to never contact me again.

Again, I get about 8-10 emails with " I am calling the cops"; "I am speaking to 'trooper hernandez'/'Steven Seagal'/'Chuck Norris'"; "If you send the Chaves I won't go to the White House with this". I have not responded to this nonsense and have sent him back his stuff.

Before agreeing to the trade, did he provide photos of the knife? Photos of what he promised to send compared to photos of what you actually received would go a long way towards describing your issue.

Luckily you aren't out anything. Send him his stuff back and be thankful you were cautious.

I think it'd be fair to let him know you've started this topic, in case he wishes to tell a different side of the story.

Can I just clarify...so you haven't lost out on anything because he sent first, but you've had to endure threats etc? While decision to name the person by username is up to you this thread would have more value if there were some quoted threats etc from your email, and if you have them pictures of the broken knife. I just think that will give people a better idea and substantiate what you're saying a bit.

Edit...looks like Bob W beat me to it :)

It seems from a very brief background check, he's been trying to trade that "like new" Sebenza 25 for quite sometime now. I guess persistence pays off, but dishonesty doesn't. ;)

By the way, it appears said sir has been banned. :)

Thats ridiculous. You tried being nice and agreeing to a trade half of you didnt want to make, just to be nice and help out a new member and he sends you a beat up broken sebenza? And to top it off threatens you with police/navy seals. Thats childish. I would hope you decide to put his name out there so myself and others know to stay away from this guy. Luckily you got his knife first and didnt send yours so at least you didnt lose anything from this deal. Except maybe shipping fees. You should direct him to this thread so he can explain himself. If the threats you say are true that is un called for and he needs to explain himself and appologize.

Glad that you didn't get screwed. He will probably be back on some other username soon trying to sell his "like new" Seb...

What you are describing is likely a mental illness. Note the word "illness". Nobody asks for or wants to have a brain that keeps screwing up your life. So stay away from doing any deals with this guy but go easy on him otherwise, because this poor fellow has a serious problem.

Perfect textbook way to handling deals with members with no feedback! Only wish everyone handles things this way!

Looks like all/the crux of his activity was "e-mail sent" posts in the EX. Not sure where the ban came from but I suspect someone has dodged a bullet by him being gone..!

^yep. Had no interest in talking about knives only buying/selling routine. Always a bad sign, imho, those who have no interest in the hobby.....except for flipping.

Here is where the plot thickens.

If this is new member kieth zero feedback. He tried to trade me as well with some fixed blades, knucks and his 25 for my unique when I just had it, but I needed cash. Also claiming that the 25 was lnib. Instead he had me make a rather expensive twill handle for his 25. I did it in one day and used the last piece I had. Meanwhile he was actually mailing the f'ing knife to you! Then a few days ago he said he could pay Saturday, then sunday.
Then for three days his "fiance' was texting me and said he got hurt. But was indeed ignoring me. He now said he will pay next friday after committing to pay a week ago now. But wont tell me his forum name or return my phone calls. He will not be getting anything from me besides an ear full for what he did to you all while scamming me. But I think its the guy in your thread. Yes?
Again I do have his number , but his fiance or other personality will get back to you.

Now
I am not complaining because I can easily sell this or put it on my knife. I also blindly do work for members and give discounts to guys I know. I've only been scammed once Last year and I learned from it.

The fact of the matter is I cannot stand liars or psychopath's. And he does not deserve to be part of this forum. But first I'd like to do more digging and see what I find. I can't Wait until he picks up his phone. He has no clue I know about this yet.

Excuse my typing from phone

The good new is we both handled this properly and he ended up with nothing.
But I still plan to get ahold of him regardless.

What a crazy story this turned into!

I'd make a comment on this situation but I don't need any Navy Seals knocking on my door.. Glad you guys got out before you REALLY lost out on something.

Hi folks. I really appreciate everyone's responses and support. I am away with the family hence limited ability to post. Either way, I will do a larger post tonight.

Bella: this is the same guy. When I called him out on the scotchbrite scale he basically said he could buy a "blue cf" scale from a friend to replace it. I am guessing it was the one you made.

So he thinks I'm his friend. haha. Yup. What a scumbag. Talk to you in depth later. I'm driving and going to buzz him.

Quote "What a scumbag".
No, scumbags do not send 102 emails to the same person over a 4 day time span. Only a manic phase of Bipolar illness gives one this degree of excess.
Some of his behavior might look like "scumbag" but his problem is far more serious. Be grateful you don't have his mental condition. There is no need to 'beat up' on someone who has an illness.
