Okay here is the scenario.........You have by some twist of fate are to be left by yourself in a remote woodland wilderness for one year.Away for all human contact no T.V radio or phone no i-pods.Okay you have small hut for shelter a good axe and knife and firesteel. There is some tins of food a small well for water and a hunting rifle. You have all the essential bits of kit you want ;).You more than good chance of surviving one year alone. But before you go away for the year alone you are told you can take just one luxury item. What nonessential thing would you take with you and why????

My dog.

Useless at hunting or killing anything but massive in terms of pure morale. Also he would help me motivate myself to go out and improve my situation/hunt/exercise etc just from being around.

I was going to say a Hooter's calendar, but I think the dog is probably the best idea...of course he's not a thing, but would be an incredible lift to morale.

Royal M got it wrong - If we are picking live beings I pick:

But I think this is not what he was talking about - what luxury item would you choose.

A fully loaded solar powered Kindle 2 (electronic book). I would need to be able to read.

Tal was talking about the bikini.

You'd probably have to shave a bit to pull off the look, but go for it!:D

Complete works of either Dickens or Shakespeare. I'd be able to finally read uninterrupted! I'd sneak a picture bookmark of my sons too.

A box of books; it would take another thread to decide which ones.

I'd try to sneak in some writing materials as well.

A volleyball... preferably made by Wilson.... they are much friendlier than Spaldings.

Shortwave radio with 200 ft antenna.

Just to hear another voice, remember Tom Hanks in Castaway, he began to forget how to talk after no contact.

Well, RoyalM already took the best answer I think... so I'll leave my Newfoundland at home (eats too much anyway!)... Verne & Dumas collections for a bit of escapism perhaps... shortwave qualifies as a radio, though I'm a fan as well... really not too much to want for given the parameters... ah, yes!

A tempurpedic mattress.

I still sleep on cots/the ground/the floor of a plane roughly half the year every year... and those tempurpedics are an absolute bit of heaven once you start getting older/falling apart.

:)

A taped recording of my wife talking.
...So I could be reminded just why the hell I wanted to come all the way out into the middle of nowhere for a year.

Just kidding, she don't talk near as much now that we hate each other...

(again...j/k)

A box of journaling supplies. Maybe I could finally get that novel written.
