ABS Expo-San Antonio Knives

I sure wish I was going, but just got back from my mother's 90th birthday (which obviously makes me too damn tired and old to go so quickly). And a great knife design, with a box that's truly of fitting character.

I just got home.

Oh man, there were some gorgeous knives :) I'll try to get pics of my two small scores soon. Hopefully someone will post table pics and a good review.

Thanks to Harvey Dean and all who helped set this one up, it was a blast.

Just got home from the show.
Nice visiting with you Eli. This was one heck of a Bowie Knife Show.
The maker's really put forth their best efforts in bringing exceptional knives.

I had a great time.

More Later.

Eli, I know about one of your purchases and, in my opinion, you got one of the overall best that was there and I'm sure you know the one I mean. I'll email you a couple of shots I took, but it was of the sheath mostly to send to John and Paul. Your new knife was pictured in the middle of page 68 of the November issue of Blade Magazine.

Thaks Paul, and I totally agree. I meant small in size, certainly not quality or beauty. I came home with much more than I hoped for. When I left the house Saturday morning I told my wife not to worry, I was only "window shopping" :D

I found 3 that would have been hard to live without, and came home with 2 of them. I had to leave a John Horrigan Hunter Bowie on the table, but I saw nobody else got it, so there may be another opportunity yet

For those interested, here's a John White gentleman's bowie that found it's way onto John's table, then into my stable (thanks again Paul ;) ) This one belonged to another forum member here until yesterday (not sure if e cares to be identified --- but he was very gracious to me in sharing the history and pics of this knife )

It's my first John White piece but definitely not my last. His work is as stunning up close as it appears in the pictures.

I don't have any good pics of the Harvey Dean hunter that came home, but will try to get those soon...

Here's the one from John Horrigan that wanted to come home with me, but funds would not allow it. This thing felt awesome in hand. John seems to have an incredible eye for proportions and making a blade very aggressive AND elegant.

What handle material is that Eli? On the Horrigan.

Chuck, I handled that Horrigan but can't remember the handle material. The fluting was perfection.
He also had an outstanding Dogbone Bowie and a beautiful full dressed gold inlaid and engraved version of the above knife with ivory.
His knives always impress me.

I got a chance to handle and inspect Larry's Voodo. For anyone who thinks this piece is more art than knife may be surprised that it's pretty comfortable in the hand and sharp as a razor. The detail and execution of this knife is phenomenal.

My daughter fell in love with that folder. :)

She took nearly 70 pictures at the show! Most are on my site now, and hopefully I'll get a link posted tomorrow, I cant find it tonight as I am a computer doofus. :o

Good meeting Eli and friend (sorry, I am so bad about names) on the way out!

No new toys for us though, not enough fundage, but just being able to handle some of those works of art was good enough for me. :)

I am really bummed that I couldn't make it this year. i was in Dallas visiting my kids this weekend before school started, but I just couldn't make that LONG drive to San Antonio.:(

For those of you that asked, I think I remember now that the Horrigan piece is snakewood... The coffee this morning brought it back to me, lol.

Well, now we need a detailed show report :)

I spoke with Cliff Parker yesterday who had a good show.

Don, I'm working on one and will post it here when finished.
However I didn't get any photos.
I assume and hope the knives were photographed and will be posted to the
ABS Expo website as they were last year. Eric Eggly of Point Seven was shooting the knives.

I really like Harvey's engraving/inlay on this dressed-up El Diablo.
Feather pattern damascs, 18K gold pins, mammoth ivory.
