Accidentally scratching knives

Agreed!
What usually gets me is lap drops. Get a new knife, flick the shit out of it while driving. Place in lap and forget it's there.......get out of truck, knife goes flying into concrete........it is now ok to cut stuff!!

Yep. This is me! Matter of fact, I almost lost a small inkosi this way. It got banged up, but I was lucky I found it.

I like scratches and wear from use. Scratches from sharpening bug me, and that is why I have started taping my blades during sharpening. From regular use however, I enjoy the scratches! Both on the handle and the blade, I like seeing the memories. This is the reason I don't mind painted pocket clips. I was actually happy getting my first snail trail on my grail Sebenza. Use, and enjoy!

This is like buying a gun and complaining that every time you shoot the gun it gets dirty.
Well said, my tungsten ring has scratched a couple custom 1911s as well as most of my other guns.
I even have a few 1911 with the dreaded "idiotmark" and one is my fault. I remember years back scratching a 100$ spyderco by careless sharpmaker usage, I thought my world would end. Now if it is a keeper it goes in the pocket and gets dinged up. Done, next....

It's gonna be fine.....

Found out today while cleaning my PM2 that my tungsten wedding band has been scratching my knives, mostly on the clip. Unfortunately on the PM2 it was the blade itself! Anyone else encounter this or find a way to counter it?
On a more serious note , I'd try using a Dremel tool with the buffing bit and something like semi chrome compound.

The first scratch is the best one. I hate getting a new knife and never wanting to carry or use it... but I do and then something happens, it gets scratched, and I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders. Now we can work together.

A big ding/dent or chipped blade from dropping it is a different story. Only happened to me once carelessly flicking it open while hiking... tip down onto a rock

Lol, wedding rings can cause all sorts of damage, they should come with a warning label. Enjoy your knife. :)

I never saw my father wearing a wedding ring. My parents have been married over 60 years.

The explanation I got once from my mother was my father was piling some logs (we grew up in lumbering country, sawmills and the like) and one shifted and his hand got squeezed between two of them. The pressure compressed the soft gold metal and my father was able to use the closest tool handy to quickly remove it. He used a chainsaw file.

Being a fellow who always worked with his hands that was the end of wearing a ring for him.

Yes, rings can be very dangerous!
Just google degloved finger and click on images! Probably too graphic to post here!
I will never wear a ring at work!

Scratches on a knife from a wedding band? Not something I would worry about especially on a clip. Scratches on my vehicles are another issue entirely and my most irritating scratching comes from my leaning up against the side of my truck to clean the wind shield or use my tool box for a writing and working surface.... with my belt buckle.... A knife could do the same thing clipped to a pocket.

I completely understand trying to avoid putting scratches on your knives. They'll happen on their own eventually, but doesn't mean you want them to happen.

The other week I was wearing my jeans with my CruWear Manix, and whenever I pulled it out to cut some zip ties I saw this HUGE scratch that went a good 2 inches down the blade. My jeans have these stupid fu**king brass rivets right above where my knife sits and I was afraid I dragged the blade across it.

It gave me a minor heart attack, haha. Luckily it wasn't so much a scratch as it was a mark and I was able to get it out. Now I'm really cautious when I retrieve my knives out of those jeans.

That may be another good option, being extra careful, if you don't want to mar up your blades(or you can try some of the other fine solutions stated).

I read through this thread and just had to shake my head...

To me, knives are meant to be used and abused (to reasonable degrees depending on type of knife it is). It's supposed to be scratched up...nothing lasts forever.

I never buy knives that sits there all pretty like a princess on a pedestal but each to their own.

All my knives are scratched up from use and to make things worse, I like scratching my initials crudely someplace on all my nice stuff.
