Hey everyone, this is my first post on bf so I'm not gonna lie, I'm a bit nervous with everyone's response to my situation, given that I'm so new and have zero feedback. Which I've also been meaning to ask someone about cuz I've already purchased like 3 or 4 knives.. Anywho, I sold a small Sebenza 21 on eBay about a week ago and the second day of the buyer having received it sends a notice through eBay claiming that he wants his money back because I sold him a fake. My heart sunk when I read that.. I'm honestly a hard working man who enjoys quality things (obviously haha) and I'm no stoop when it comes to purchasing things online. I bought my knife through eBay as well, yeah I know what you're thinking, but! I bought it from a reputable dealer from Canada with a sales history of 20,000+ and 100% feedback. Not sure if I'm allowed to mention that sellers name so I'll let u guys ask me in the comments. I'm just terrified of giving this guy his money back and him sending me some fake or maybe he may have just regretted buying a $300 knife, then how would I explain any of that to eBay?? I wanted to post this here because I've seen how supportive you guys are to the community and it's really a blessing, I don't know if you guys get enough thanks for that. There's a lot of really honest helpful people on blade forums. So please, give me your advice, share your experiences, really any feedback would help tons! Thank you

This was my eBay post

If that's a fake it's a damn good one!!! The experts will be around soon to tell you more!

Did you buy it from TNK?

If you end up having to take it back, there are some measures you can take, like making a video when unboxing it.

At least from the pictures everything looks like a legit Chris Reeve Sebby. My gut tells me he just wants his money back for what ever reason.

I'd be in direct contact with someone from eBay before you do anything, as I'm thinking I know who you bought this from(caledon?) and I've made several purchases through his store without any issues. As Esav stated, you should be sure to film your unboxing in the event you take the knife back.

My initial reaction was denial and without necessarily saying it, pretty much denied his request. I've heard that when eBay gets involved that they tell the buyer to "scrap" the item and still receives a refund O.O I don't know how I'd take that news. I'm terrified of that situation. Is there any validity to that?

I think I might start with asking why they believe it is fake and for photo's so you can compare them to your photo's to see if there is any knife swap. If you think there was a swap you can then inform EBay
This is just a thought

I actually did ask him exactly that. I'm not being specific about my exact replies to the buyer cuz I honestly don't remember them word for word and the system that eBay uses to resolve the issue is through this messaging system that doesn't allow you to go back to what you sent. I could read his messages though. And it was a total 2 messages from me and 2 from him. He just seems so sure it's a fake it's so upsetting.

By the way, he never did say why he thinks it's a fake. He pretty much said, "we both know you're just trying to rip me off so just give me a full refund"

It could be as simple as some buddy of his told him he thought it was fake. Fake or not (I'm not the best at determining this)you didn't try to rip him off, and will just have to go through the process to resolve this, pain in the butt that it is.
Good luck

Based on that reply I just think he wants a free Sebby.

Sellers have very little recourse on the 'bay..Thinking about stopping any transactions there myself for this reason.

It wouldn't surprise me to see you get back a fake and him to claim that you are only getting back what you sold. He gets a real Sebenza, from what I can tell from your pics, and you get a worthless fake.

Yep..I think I am just going to cancel my listings on the 'bay and just avoid them.

Believe me I'm also considering just not selling any knives on eBay anymore. I think I'll just upgrade to gold and sell here. At least on bf I have a more helpful community and deal with ppl with a little more integrity.. Thanks everyone for all your intake.

I'm no CRK expert so I won't chime in on whether it's real or not but I've ordered from caledon2 without issue. If I recall from my dealings with them correctly, caledon2 is S&R knives and I've not heard any complaints about them other than high prices.

ebay keeps going down hill in my opinion. Worse, is they don't care; they rake in so much money that they just don't care.

Sucks that you may be totally right and still get shafted but if you get YOUR knife back (I would worry about him sending you a fake in return) and return his cash it's not a huge hit aside from the time, hassle, and some $$.

What amazes me about slebay is they know that people are selling millions of $$ of fakes on there along with stolen goods and they do nothing about it. Just happy to keep taking the $$ in with no regards to integrity at all on their end.

Did you state in your ad "no refunds" ? Was the knife sold with all the paperwork and CRK box? Did you check to see if the slabs had the month/year stamped on the inside of the slabs before selling it?
From what I understand, through eBay, it is a contract between the buyer and seller. The only way the buyer can get out of it is by proving it is a fake. The first step is communication via message through eBay to get it resolved. Ebay does record the messages. Then they will get involved if it's not resolved.
I do believe caledon2 is an authorized CRK dealer.
