Activity on the exchange recently

Coleman, there's really no point arguing this, IMHO.

Lots of folks feel insecure because they have no experience dealing with international matters...whether through credit card companies, banks, PayPal, what have you. So, rather than take a chance, they punt. I'm guilty of the same but for a relatively small number of folks in Canada, Europe, Israel, etc that I knew personally via the forums.
I hear ya.

So you would like the $ but don’t want responsibility if something goes awry?
Sort of; the choice is with the other side ($ if its a sale but knife/something if its a trade). Just to be clear, when I present these terms I go out of my way to do it as pessimistically as possible. I've literally told people that I wouldn't accept these terms if the roles were reversed.

The bottom line is I won't surrender my recourse to the courts just to make a trade / sale. This is more of a CYA then anything else.

I will take giant Crag the Brewer thanks brand chopper. Please show a photo of it next to a potato with three eyes and a 2009 Lincoln formative years penny for friends and family payment.

Haha. Ahhh. I'm brain damaged sorry. Just some goofball humor. The potato and penny part anyways, I could definitely use a chopper. ,🤪

Anyways .... At least forum this is a lot safer than watchex on reddit. Crikey you never know who you are dealing with there. Here, at least I know the usual suspects from posting on the forums. I don't mind using f&f if someone asks that is an active member. Paying memberships and good feedback are nice. The post history is a great tool. You can really creep on someone before commiting to a transaction.

I probably wouldn't buy anything from someone with no or low feedback that wasn't very active.

One of the longtime, super active and awesome members wanted a postal money order. That was perfectly fine. Quick stop down the post office (twice because they didn't have any the first day) and off it goes.

As far as knives being available longer than normal... My slow ass has been able to scoop up a couple from the exchange that I really wanted. Not just random opportunities, but ones I actually wanted. It was shocking. I don't know what's going on.

Thank you for the response. It is appreciated. Makes sense. It was an honest question, not looking for an argument. 👍🏼

Thank you again. And thank you for your candor.

No worries.

I didn't interpret it as looking for an argument.

That's an obvious fake.

🥳

It took close to 15 mins to find That penny

I'm new here, but not to knife forums (long time member on the Spyderco Forums) I'm just looking to unload a handful of my knives from my collection and joined here to be able to do so. I'm guessing not having feedback and posts probably makes people hesitant to deal with me? Understandably so I suppose.

The knife community, being a small niche of the internet I'd like to think we're all in this together. Is there really that many scammers around here?

We've had an influx of ne'er-do-wells of late that have exploited opportunities. I've seen you around...the main thing is ensuring that you are dealing with the people that you think you are.

Just use a reputable payment method that allows for the sale of goods.

I have default language a bit like CPK does where I will sell to you internationally, but that my responsibility for the package ends when it leaves the United States or when it arrives at your mail forwarder if you are using one. There's just too many unknowns with international shipping and customs. Also a lot of international buyers want you to help them dodge customs in some way by mislabeling or vaguely labeling the package, or by listing a declared value different from the sale price, which I also won't do.

Can't speak for everyone, but MY choice for not using paypal has nothing to do with taxes.
It's all political..... THERES.

And I don't like automatically being thought of as a criminal.

Absolutely agree….couldn't have said it better!

A few days ago I posted my first sales thread since December 2019. Beforehand I changed my password.

I insist on PayPal Goods & Services. A couple of people countered with a lower price and payment via PayPal Friends & Family but I stood firm on G&S. I prefer G&S for assured protection and once I plug in the tracking number it’s a convenience for seller (PP keeps automatic status tracking) and buyer (buyer also get shipped notification with tracking).

Shipment via USPS Priority Mail with Insurance in USPS boxes which are well taped. Will not ship to addresses outside the U.S.

I don’t believe in posting BF user name and date with each picture. Instead I provide two pictures per knife with a unique background which acts as a signature specially when I have multiple knives per sales thread. I post a maximum of 10 knives per sales thread.

Once sold I cross out the selling price and mark it as sold. For instance, $250.00 SOLD.

As for pricing, I look at condition, original packaging, price paid, PP G&S and USPS fees, price at dealers, price on eBay, etc.

I do something similar but I just take the item out of the sales thread if there are more then one item or just post "SOLD" and lock the thread

With that said, I don't really understand why people get hung up on someone not wanting to advertise the selling price for their item. Its certainly useful information but no one is obligated to share it. Maybe the price is low and they don't want to be seen as making a "forced sale" or maybe they just like their privacy.

Yep, same. I do two pictures for fixed blades (each side), four+ pictures for folders (each side, lockup, blade centering, half stop if applicable), and a short video for really long knives or swords or for flipper knives. I don't do the date/username thing, but my photos usually stand for themselves, and no one has ever questioned the veracity.
