John Doyle is generously donating an 8" bowie for Adam and Haley.

He'll get right working on finishing it this week and it should be ready shortly. Will post updates as I have them!

This Lurquin Hurak from the Paranee series will be up in the exchange presently - all funds to go to Adam and Haley (I'll be asking that the buyer send funds direectly to them, not to me).

If you've ever wanted the ultimate in a compact do-everything knife, this is it.

Very quick pic:

I am pleased to report that the Hurak has found a new home with the venerable betzner, who will be sending funds directly to the Desrosiers - thank you sir!

With any luck, I'll have one of my chef knives posted for sale next week, with all funds going to Adam Haley.

I'm going to leave the bidding on my knife open until midnight Jan. 1. If you want to help the DesRosiers here please get your bids in. The current high bid is $600.

Thanks to all that have helped with this very worthwhile cause.

Adam and Haley are such kind and giving people who have helped so many of us along the way. I am happy just to know them, and though they'd never ask me for help, I'd still like to do my own small part.

Therefore I am donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this knife towards their rebuilding efforts.

This beautiful Hunter has an expertly sculpted handle of premium Desert Ironwood with a fileworked and stacked spacer bolster. This is one of the most comfortable hunters you will ever hold in your hand.
Haley also made the fitted horizontal carry leather sheath. This piece was depicted in Blade Magazine article "Forged Fairy Tale Comes True" April 2012 (pg.84).

FAQ:

Q: Was there insurance, and if not, why not?

A: No insurance. The nature of WHERE the DesRosiers built their shop and HOW they built it(even though things like electric and heat far surpassed code) made insurance a virtually impossible equation....ie...eat, or pay insurance. It was available, just not humanly or intellectually feasible.

Q: What do you plan to do in the short term?

A: While commercial fishing is in the background of both DesRosiers, the local outpouring of both materials and labor means that they may be able to develop a shop to build sooner rather than later. The previous shop was a labor of love, and time, allowed through careful planning and created from locally sourced materials. The new shop may be a corrugated metal building.

Q: What do you need?

Right now.....money and good wishes. Labor and materials if able. Long term, simply what was once had...the ability to follow a dream. I(Steven Garsson) had an occurance in February 2015 where I was in the hospital for almost 24 hours. It took me 10 minutes to get there. If Adam or Haley have a catastrophic occurence in Petersburg, AK...they will likely die on the spot it happened. This is the cost of living where they do....the literal "last frontier". They realize this. They EXPECT NOTHING from us. It's important for everyone out there to realize this. This is THEIR lives and THEIR choice. You may not understand or agree with it(I DON'T)....but hopefully you can respect it(I DO!).

Adam and Haley DesRosiers would not be who they are if they did not follow their own path. Pretty sure in the way of things, they have lived up to their promises and kept their word....made a quality knife and backed it up with great customer service and a solidly interesting narrative.

What else do you want?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Thank you Claudio,

I have cleared out a few messages.

Please e-mail me folks, there are only two hundred e-mails that I can have in my BFC PM account.

Claudio has pledged two beautiful knives and I will be posting some of my own for sale shortly, but I went to bed at two am and got up and seven am and am a bit punchy!

Happy New Year!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Like to shoutout to Ben Tendick who has really run with the ball here.
