Hello All!

I've noticed all sorts of different themed threads here in the Fiddleback forum and thought that I'd give this thread a shot! My name is Luke and my family and I are living and serving as missionaries in Bolivia, South America. About 3 ½ years ago we coordinated with a local orphanage and brought a church group (we started a church for Deaf people) to the orphanage bearing gifts for the kids and items that could help. We also took time to try and bring a moment of joy to the kids that were there. During all the visits leading up to the actual event, my family was introduced to a little baby girl that was 3 months old. My 2 daughters ( 2 ½ & 5 at the time) asked if we could take her home with us! It wasn't possible at the time, but it sure got my wife and I thinking. Now fast-forward to November of last year. Those seeds finally grew and we decided to pursue an adoption . . . that little girl is long gone, but there are lots of other children that need a family. Now, after 6 months of paperwork, interviews, evaluations, and lots of roller coaster emotions, we've finally got to a point where the judge has reviewed and accepted our request for a child. But, the way they do it here, is that you can't select the child you want. We were able to select a gender and an age range . . . and now it is up to the system to see if there is a child available. We just found out that there are 15 couples waiting, so the judge said she needs 20-30 days to sort things out. We don't know where we fall in the pecking order, but we are hoping and praying that all the children won't be taken before our names come up! If that happens, we will be put on an indefinite waiting list until a child is available in the age range we selected.

So . . . I started this thread because my wife and I could use all the prayers possible during this time! It has been a roller coaster ride of emotions, but it will be worth it all in the end. I was recently introduced to Fiddleback Forge Knives on KSF and I was struck by their 'beauty meets function' style and decided I'd like to own at least one someday! Because of where we live, I'm on the hunt to 'adopt' a Fiddleback Runt or a 2 Finger Karda . . . either way it will be a cute kid!

We will see which I get to adopt first, the Fiddleback or another beautiful little girl! The race is on! We are praying we'll have news of an available child soon. I know if I'm able to 'adopt' the Fiddleback first, it will be more affordable!

Thanks for reading and if you have time, we'd sure appreciate your prayers.

Luke

Good luck, juju and smoke sent. I dont have the two you are looking for though:)

Smoke sent. What part of Bolivia??? I've spent a significant amount of time down there.

Best wishes for the adoption! Nothing as exciting or nerve-wracking as adding a new member to the family. Except hunting for the Fiddleback you want. ;)

We lived in the village 'Pucara' for 15 months back when they didn't have electricity. That is on the 'Ruta de Che'. Then in 2009 we moved to the city of Sucre after a life-or-death experience in the Uyuni Salt Desert. We've enjoyed Sucre.

Seriously! The adoption seems like one step forward, two steps back, but hopefully we are close now.

I did jump in the shark tank this last Friday and tried for the runt (that is another name we use for kids, so that might just be the perfect model ;) ) but didn't get it. We'll see what happens in the weeks to come!

Adoption is a user-inhibitive process, at least here in the states. Some friends of mine have just this past month successfully completed the process, after more than 8 years of attempting to navigate the system and I don't know how much money spent. Hang in there. Your day will come.

Wow! That is some serious waiting! I hope we don't go that long. We aren't asking for an infant, so the waiting list shouldn't be as long. We are hoping to hear some news in the next couple weeks.

They were wanting an infant, and multiple mothers backed out after birth. It had been a trying, painful process for them. Thankfully, that journey is over for them. Prayers and good wishes heading your way.

Well, good news! We met with the lawyer this morning and we found out the judge has selected a child for us! That's one runt down! We won't get her till next month, but we got her!! Now let's see if today can be my Fiddleback Runt Day too!

Well, internet went out just after I posted the last post. I got connected 11 minutes after the Fiddleback Friday thread was started and they were gone! No Fiddleback runt for me today, but I got the most important one! Now we have to wait for our court date.

Good news Imari55 wishing you all the very best to you and your family from over here in Oz.
