Africa...

Amazing pics, Andy! Nicely done with great quality. Thanks for sharing.

Wow Andy... I've been away for a while--I've come back to find more of your amazing pics! Well done, man. I can't wait to show my kids these--thanks again and again for taking the time to share these.

Thanks all it has been a great ride...!!! I have looked through and think I have now posed the best of all my pics. On and off there will be a few more as I pick some of the more obscure things to add to the album I am compiling of trip but the "best ofs" are up here now.... :)

Pokey, with some of those elephant.... CLOSE..!! to the point of not being able to get them all in the picture..!! One or two. probably ten yds from the truck. The Impala (McDonalds of the plains - fast food) also were close but there are lots...!!!!! The rest were all within 50 - 100 yds. When that one elephant above started honking and flapping his ears as a warning you could feel the sounds he made.

I had some interesting conversations on the various drives I did around Kruger. Most people were sold that they were among "wild animals" and such. Technically this is very true, they are not tame nor is it a zoo. They are however very attuned and desensitised to the presence of humans and the vehicles, in that they don't take off or attack as may well be the case otherwise. There are notable exceptions to this of course. I found myself far more excited and happy to have seen the various critters I did in Mozambique, even if I could not photograph them at all or as well as from a tour in the park. The lion and elephant in particular !! Seeing those as I was walking around in THEIR world was much more gratifying. Same as the hippo and crocs out on the river, I have some hippo and croc pics from Kruger that are better but don't come with the satisfaction. A few of the people on the tours got this when we spoke (you are piled in close for several hours so you end up talking a good bit).

Great pics.......

I have tried many times to describe to people just how massive a big African Bull Elephant is, the largest land mammal on the planet. Photos and words never seem to be able to express it though.
It is only when you see them up close in the wild that you realise the true majesty of this creature.

I can't actually believe that it is a year to the day that I flew out....

Wow that went fast. If you make it back and you come down to Cape Town please let me know. It will be my pleasure to give you a locals tour. :)

I've spent all morning reading your thread. The croc story was my favorite. What memories. Thanks again mate for taking the time to share.

A year ago I was flying from SA to Moz...

Thanks all, lots of memories flooding back !!!! The trophies are still making their was from Moz to SA now !!! Nothing happens quick (OR CHEAP) there let me tell you.

John that is a little Buck folding knife I have had since the 80s (a gift from a grand old man) and which is always on my hunting belt.

Andy, Thanks, I thought it said Buck on the flap, but even with a magnifying glass was not sure. Again great post and photos! John

Wow, great picks! Thanks for sharing them Andy.

I went to school for wildlife conservation hoping to become an African park ranger to protect these awesome creatures and to hunt down poachers. It didn’t quite work out as planned but it has no less diminished my love and wonder for these incredible animals.
