After Sale Lounge

Ok, I can let the dogs back in the living room now, turn the phones back on, Apple Watch, plug in my other Wifi capable units, and relax and wind back down 😀. So much goes into competing in these sales, and the preparation. EVERYBODY OUT (me 10 minutes before the sale lol). OK COAST IS CLEAR NOW lol…. (A few minutes after) poor guys

Did anyone else freak out for a second when that other EDC listing was posted at like 2:58?
Oh HECK YEAH man lol. It confused me and threw me off, but clicked on it out of reaction since it said “EDC” and I know Nathan said he was going to be in a Dr.‘s appt, so I expected the time to be a little off. I’m surprised nobody posted in it, I almost did 🤣

Why some of you like the post of someone claiming a knife in these sales who only buys to flip is confounding to me.
TBH, I didn't consider this. Even had I, I don't know the flippers from the "righteous buyers", whomever those might be.

Seems to me I've seen more than a few regulars on the forum offer up CPKs for sale at various times (frequently with an apologetic explanation), so where do you draw the line? For the record, I've not sold even one of the few CPKs I've managed to get during Friday (madness) Sales. I've been tempted to offer a couple of knives that I'm pretty sure I'd hurt myself with if I take them out of their box, but I sell essentially nothing that I acquire (knives or otherwise), and my home office reflects this., unfortunately.

It seems like Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist could take action after-the-fact it flippers are reprehensible to him. Also, at the risk of shooting myself in the foot at future sales, Matthew Gregory Matthew Gregory 's suggestion would both slow the demand at these sales and discourage flippers. It would also help fund Nathan's future Ford repairs.

Flippers gonna flip. If the past few years have shown anything, it's that behavior around inflation (or price hikes disguised as inflation) is not always what you'd expect.

But matthew's right, I think nathan's price went up maybe 14% from the last edc sales 5 years ago, and I'm pretty sure general inflation over that time period was more than 20%

I think flipping is purchasing with the intent to resell in the short term for a profit.

Whenever I sell a CPK, if it's a model that's still in production, I ask for cost + fees + shipping and estimate kind of conservatively because I don't know what G&S fees or shipping will actually be until the payment is made and the package shipped. I usually make $5-20. If I sell one that's irreplaceable because it was discontinued or a one-off, I will definitely ask what I think I can reasonably get that someone would be willing to pay the same day, since typically if I am selling one it is because something else came up. I don't view this as flipping, but some might disagree.

As far as flippers are concerned, I want to discourage people from swooping in and buying knives just to turn right around and sell them to the people who were trying to buy the knives in a sale. You're not adding any value to the exchange, you're just making money on something that you had nothing to do with without adding any value.

If you're buying a knife because you like it and you want to check it out and you eventually sell it and it's worth more than it was when you bought it, that's fine. But if you're swooping in just to gather inventory to turn right around and sell it right back to the people who were trying to buy it at the same time that you bought it, you're a flipper, and that's not good. I want people to be able to buy the knives that they want at the price that I sell them for because it is a good and fair value, and I'm in the business of making nice knives that are fairly expensive but well worth what I charge for them. But if you're running the price up higher than I've listed them for, and it's making it where the real end users can't have the tools they want to put in their kit, you're starting to erode the value of my work and I resent that. Why are you making a profit on my work, you didn't help me build it. Leave my customers alone.

And this, right here, that's why I need to do a pre-order. It disincentivizes the flipping.

We will put one together. CPK wants to take care of our good customers. You have got us where we are today and if there is something you want, I want to give it to you.

In the middle of a big storm, on generator power, and still takes the time to let us know we matter! Class act CPK is! Thank y’all.
