After Sale Lounge

It is frustrating not to be a "ninja" at the keyboard but I still keep trying for most all the CPK sales. 🤔

I not really sure how well a lottery type system would work with ~40 knives?

But I do think a lottery would work well for a Fun Friday type sale with only one or two items. You could take all entries in the first minute and then do a random drawing from all the people who made the 60 second cut. You could also draw a backup in case the winner declined.
Might be a decent system except that if it was left open for a full minute it would likely crash the servers or possibly the internet. Maybe a five second cut off. Thirty pages should be enough.

After about a decade, I think I'm pretty much done. This whole "let's see who can move their trackballs the fastest" lolly scramble is 100 percent pure Bravo Sierra. And many of the same jagoffs seem to win every time. Also, the whole "leisurely pace" schtick has grown tired, and old, and it really isn't funny, and IMO it's time to drop it. It's actually kind of low-key cruel.

Combined with being told by a respected member that I talk too much here, it's not fun for me anymore. I'm sure I'm alone on an island, so pay no attention. But still . . .

I believe that some day this whacked out sales model will change to something more reasonable, like a lottery - once CPKs are not the "belle of the ball" anymore (and eventually that always happens). By that time, I'll bet that a bunch of others like me will have moved on.

Maybe I'll feel different by Monday. I doubt it. If not, expect to see a bunch of knifes for sale here soon. No fast fingers needed to purchase.
I have accepted that I have no shot when there's only 10, or even 20, but really thought I was gonna get in on this one, and only missed by a few spots. But it doesn't sour me on being here. This is one of the very best subs on the site, and I still have my other CPKs to keep me happy! Take care, whatever you decide.:)

You know, I've been around CPK for some years, long enough that I can remember weekly sales where you might still be able to get one several hours after the thread opened. As CPK has grown in popularity, I think it's just a natural part of the life cycle.

There's no really good way to distribute something for which demand drastically outpaces supply.

I am sometimes tempted to grumble about being unable to go to BLADE Show or missing a release I really wanted of something popular. But it's actually helped me to take to heart the fact that these are just things, and they're not very important things. Sometimes I'm fast enough to score, sometimes not. I miss on attempts to get things I wanted, and I pass even on attempting to get even more from lack of funds.

That's just the shakes, though. Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you. Maybe the bear is a guy whom you know will be selling it for profit the next week.

I'm sorry you're growing tired of it. It's a hobby, it should be enjoyable.

I do not disagree. I think I see your island from mine.

Fun Friday sales at 5pm don't usually seem to pull in the same number of people vying for a spot as the normal fully announced (two week notice) 3pm Friday sales.

And how do you verify a 5 second or ~15/~30/~45 second cut off?

If your post time says 5:00PM... You'd be in for consideration on the lottery drawing but if your post time says 5:01PM or later then you're out.

Congrats to those who were lucky enough to pick up a Cruwear to use. It's one of my favorite steels and I look forward to seeing how Nate's offering performs in the field and sharpening.

Life happened and I missed this rodeo ... c'est la vie ... it's Friday!

Sincere congratz to all of you non-flipping winners ! Special props to those of you scoring your first or first of a few CPKs out of respect and admiration for the amazing knife, designers, maker, and users that make it all possible.

That's a shame, I'm a bit disappointed that someone felt the need to tell you that.

FOMO is a pretty powerful drug and it can worm its way into even the most steadfast of us. Personally, I took a step back from the forums these past few months. Aside from just being busy with life and other interests, it allowed myself a hard reset and I am now far more comfortable and at ease when it comes to these high demand low supply items. I truly hope you will find a peace with it all at some point but I do acknowledge that it certainly does suck at times. In the end though, you win some and you lose some - that's the fact of things and it applies pretty much to everything in life.

I am really proud of the CPKs I have in my assortment. If I am never able to score another, I still have an excellent bunch to fall back on - they are the best knives a fella can hope for. I can't wait for my Shiv preorder - it will be my "strictly for fun CPK".

I don't pop up much anymore in conversations. That's the breaks for me currently as my workload has outpaced my available time. That being said I do keep up when I have a second on the toilet, couch, or street corner and I do like to chime in from time to time. This is one of those situations.

While I get the frustration, and it's easy for me to say as a person that regularly gets in on sales, I think that's a bit petty. I have a good setup, I practiced frequently, and that's kinda just the breaks I guess. Here's what rubs me a bit wrong - You have options. I've personally proxy'd, sold at cost, and given away WAY more than I've kept. I have a shit ton of CPK for reference, yet still, I've moved along even more via PM in my relatively short tenure here. I can think of many other people like myself that have no problem giving up a spot or moving a knife to someone in need and having difficulties getting what they want. That's the way these things work when the demand is so high. People help people. I've reached out to folks I see struggling and frustrated to ask if I can set them up either with a proxy or with an extra I happen to have. They didn't even have to publically ask. Others have done the same for me. What determines if you make it on that list is how you carry yourself. If people like me didn't jump as often as we do I would guess that 90% of these would end up in the hands of people looking to make a quick buck. They would get shut down eventually, but not before taking more of the limited stock out of the game and hurting the community. There is no perfect system. You may say lottery but it also has its flaws and in the end, it's not our decision regarding a sales model. I trust that supply is increasing slowly but surely based on what I've seen and I know that at some point it will be much easier to get in.

Again, I want to say that I understand why you're frustrated. Not getting what you want when you want it is always tough. It is for me too. When I miss my next try I probably won't stomp my feet and put out my bottom lip, however.

Just now have seen this post, The Amazing Virginian The Amazing Virginian

You can't be an "Amazing" Virginian and just throw in the towel like that. And who am I going to talk hockey with?

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back in the game...new CPKs or not.

And if I am the one who hurt your feelings with my remark about your not being able to get a word in edgewise (against yourself), it was intended as a lawyer joke from my many years doing battle on the stand with defense counsel. (So, if that's the case, as I suspect, it was a jibe, not a rebuke...and apologies in advance, warranted or not.) You're a lawyer. You're supposed to be garrulous.

Don't quit unless you really just have no further use for the community (and secondarily the knives). You'll end up regretting it.

Enough said by me on the topic.

I remember at first, when I first started getting into CPKs, that I was really disappointed with the sales when I either forgot, or was way too slow on the jump. I I went through about six CPKs to find my grail. It took a lot of patience, but I eventually got the knife I truly wanted. All of Nathan‘s other knives are incredible, no doubt about it. But there is just one that kept calling me. And of course it’s that HDFK. Now, that I have that knife in hand, anything else I score after that is just a bonus. I still really want that upcoming chopper, so for me, the thrill ain’t gone yet. If I never score on the sales, that’s OK at least I have my HDFK.

Man, if that's the case, it's a classic case of how sentiments can fail to translate via text.
