After Sale Lounge

I remember at first, when I first started getting into CPKs, that I was really disappointed with the sales when I either forgot, or was way too slow on the jump. I I went through about six CPKs to find my grail. It took a lot of patience, but I eventually got the knife I truly wanted. All of Nathan‘s other knives are incredible, no doubt about it. But there is just one that kept calling me. And of course it’s that HDFK. Now, that I have that knife in hand, anything else I score after that is just a bonus. I still really want that upcoming chopper, so for me, the thrill ain’t gone yet. If I never score on the sales, that’s OK at least I have my HDFK.

I was fortunate enough that THE CPK for me was the first one I landed (yes, 'twas a HDFK 😁). Every single one I have obtained after the fact has been a tremendous bonus - I can relate to the feeling.

My plane landed at 3:06 today, but I wasn't going to try anyway. I think the difficulty of buying a CPK in general is a little overblown. I accumulated about a dozen fairly quickly. First one or two from some welcoming members, a few on Friday sales including a boot dagger, and about half of them from preorders. I haven't had to resort to a proxy, but would definitely go that way if I got skunked too many times.

Man, if that's the case, it's a classic case of how sentiments can fail to translate via text.
Yes, and I'll own that regardless. (I'm only assuming that it's my comment that rankled, but it was never intended to. Though it was intended to get a laugh.) But either way, if it did contribute to this...I am sorry. I've been around here long enough to know how good intentions can come to naught.

(Maybe we can promote a new TV series."When Good Posts Go Bad" or "Posts Gone Wild".)

But then everything would be AUS8 😁

All this aside, I am going to be curious of the feedback from those that scored one of the CW knives today. I have no experience with that steel, aside from having a Survive! 4.7 in it briefly - I didn't get enough use out of it to note any performance benefits. When it comes to "super" steels, D3V is where I generally want to put my money. Otherwise, I like to stick to more basic steels that are easier to maintain.

Honestly, I'd be very surprised if the difference in performance would be noticeable even to most CPK aficionados...

...A little toughness sacrificed for a little gain in edge retention.

Otherwise, Nate's gonna have some 'splainin' to do.

LOL came upstairs from doing stuff at home and looked at my monitor and saw it was 3:01 and thought “oops, never mind”. I really need to start setting reminders if I’m serious about stuff.

Please don’t! 😂. You’ve already got the fastest finger on the exchange and have broke my heart enough times, I don’t need you doing it in Friday sales too

After about a decade, I think I'm pretty much done. This whole "let's see who can move their trackballs the fastest" lolly scramble is 100 percent pure Bravo Sierra. And many of the same jagoffs seem to win every time. Also, the whole "leisurely pace" schtick has grown tired, and old, and it really isn't funny, and IMO it's time to drop it. It's actually kind of low-key cruel.

Combined with being told by a respected member that I talk too much here, it's not fun for me anymore. I'm sure I'm alone on an island, so pay no attention. But still . . .

I believe that some day this whacked out sales model will change to something more reasonable, like a lottery - once CPKs are not the "belle of the ball" anymore (and eventually that always happens). By that time, I'll bet that a bunch of others like me will have moved on.

Maybe I'll feel different by Monday. I doubt it. If not, expect to see a bunch of knifes for sale here soon. No fast fingers needed to purchase.

This bums me out to read. You hooked me up with my first CPK years ago and I’ve been in this mess ever since! I’m happy to say I’ve hooked a lot of people up with their first CPK at this point. And like you did for me, I don’t price gouge people! I think that’s the part that has become more discouraging to me as Ive been a part of the CPK community for quite a few years now.

A lottery would probably be a more fair solution but it probably won’t change the rate at which I can obtain more CPKs much. It’s the scalper mentality buyers that really is more of a problem IMO

Im mixed on the “leisurely sale” thing. It is either one of two things. Nathan being very cocky, or being very humble. I don’t know Nathan personally but everything I’ve read and seen from him points to the latter.

I imagine he’s still blown away that his dream has turned into such an obsession in the knife community that his sales never last more than seconds. That he can bring 100 knives to Blade show and come home with none. The “leisurely sale” is him protecting himself from a day when his knives might not garnish the attention that once did (very unlikely at this pace)

I also sharpen D3V on power belt so obviously take everything I say with a grain of
Salt 😂🍻

It is going to be this sub's 7th birthday tomorrow (DOB 6/17/2016). I was going to pay some nice tribute by resurrecting my prior happy BD thread(s) buried in here somewhere but I am not going to post on the momentous birthday because I can't believe that y'all would do TAV like this.

Can some please refer to my most recent color chart of Internet posting to advise me what color(s) I should've chosen for the above?

I’ve been around the CPK forum for a couple years or so and haven’t scored in a sale in a long long time.
All I have is a five year old cell phone to try with, so it’s not really surprising. But I hang out here regularly and some of the other regulars have taken pity and helped me out. Greatly appreciated, fellas.
Some are people I helped out when they were new to CPK. Others are jerks and I can’t fathom why they helped me out (not naming names). But the reality is the demand has far outpaced the supply. I have a few CPK’s and don’t really need anymore.
But yes, I want another EDC. I would love to get one of those sexy DEK3’s. I wish I could have afforded a K18. Same goes for a K20. But I’m just a tradesmen who can’t even afford a pick up truck with less than 100K miles on it. It’s my lot in life. I’ll get by. Count your blessings.

I'll be very interested to see how Nathan's tweaked Cruwear performs also. Most the Cruwear I have runs around a 61 to 62 target so a bit harder with the Delta treatment has my curiosity peaked.

But all the Cruwear I have is super easy to maintain and it takes an excellent edge. The ease of maintenance is a big draw for me, but also perfomance wise it's up there for my uses.
