Age and choice

I'm 51. I have a few nice folders, but I'm mostly a fixed blade fan. I like BRKT for a factory knife and several of the BF Knifemaker Community (JK, Breeden, Gossman, etc.) for customs.

I'm 29 and typically buy and carry traditionals. I do carry a modern, one hand folder from time to time and I've been carrying a Paramilitary off an on for the last year or so.

My favorite companies are Buck, Queen, Schrade (the real Schrade), Camillus (again, the real Camillus), Victorinox, Spyderco and ESEE.

The modern knives have their place and I appreciate being able to open my knife quickly and close it quickly when I may only have one hand to work with. But the traditionals speak to me in a way that G-10 and titanium never can. I'd rather have sawcut Delrin and 1095 than ZDP and titanium any day.

I'm 40 and shifting from fixed blades to slip joints. I just bought a Boker Beer Barrel stockman, a Case trapper, a Boker trapper.

40ish.
I like anything functional and quality that fits my hand.
The Spyderco Gayle Bradley, Benchmade 710, small Sebenza 21, Zero Tolerance 350...
Not a fan of flashy stuff.

im 23 and am a complete spyderco knut. i edc the sage 1 and it is well suited to any environment. works in jeans, slacks, and suits.

63, and biased towards practicality. I'm not wedded to any maker, but consider holes in blades to be flat ugly. I have a strong preference for bright colored handles and locks, but am not fussy about the type of lock. I have a mild preference for stainless but will buy carbon steel for those uses where the slight advantage matters. I care about utility, not cosmetics in most cases. I also care about price. I'll pay for a clearly better knife, but I will not pay for a brand name or country of origin.

I'm 48 and very eclectic in knife brands, but very demanding in quality. My tastes change every so often. My last binge was in William Henry, but in the past year it started changing to traditional slipjoints. After trying several factory-made brands and being disappointed with quality, I have now started concentrating on custom made splipjoints. I also buy a lot of Spydercos because they are a local company and I like the crew, but lately my purchases have been limited to their sprint runs (after all, the cash can only be stretched so far).

Also have a handfull of fixed blades, but only those that I need for specific tasks, not really to collect.

I also have other hobbies that compete for disposable cash...:)

I'm 25 and i usually stick with Emerson and Spyderco for my folding knives. I like going the custom route for my fixed blades though.

19, and I mostly like Grohmann knives (own the number 1 and 4), my Fallkniven F1, ESEE 6 and Izula, and my traditional folders. like the case medium stockman, Boker whittler, and Buck Cadet 303.
As far as folders go, I feel that they should be traditional like a stockman or a whittler because they work well for day-to-day tasks and I'm just getting onto carving and whittling. If I need anything larger and stronger (but still useable as an EDC) I just reach for my Izula. It's already small enough to vanish into my pocket and it's a thousand times stronger than any tacticool folder that I can think of.

My father bought everything needed to forge our own blades, so I look forward to making my own knife or two in the not so distant future. I'm sure the first few will staaaank though, haha

30. Started out with a Victorinox Classic some 16 years ago.

Started reading Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement in 1998 and a bit of Tactical Knives in 2002, got to knew a lot of knife brands.

From 2002 to 2006, I had an initial learning curve about knives, Extrema Ratio Harpoon F got my attention, so did Spyderco ATR, Kasper Perfigo, CRKT M16-13 etc.

But Masters of Defense folders blew me away, in particular CQD Mark 1 and 2. Got the money to get a CQD Mark 2 in May 2006 and joined Bladeforums, learned more about knives and lurked on and off.

I bought some more folders that caught my eye in 2010 and became more active on BF.

I look for ease of cleaning, sharpening, tightening in a folder. A well-maintained blade is a pleasurable blade to use. Quality over quantity. Not too expensive, say under USD 300?

New steels, robust locking systems, handles are certainly things I would like to try out, but within my limited budget for knives.

A small wishlist of mine: Al Mar Nomad, Boker Turbine, Spyderco Police 3 G10, maybe a Leatherman Surge Multi-Tool. Maybe a CQD Mark 2 440C.
EDIT: Depending on availability and finances, an A.G. Russell Acies ZDP-189/Ti framelock would be nice.

I'm 47 and been collecting since a kid with my dad. Started out with alot of Case, Imperial, Camillus, Schrade traditional folders as mostly hand me downs when my dad would upgrade. Of course those are some of my most treasured today.

As I past cars and girls and a kept a respectable job to start building some toy many I went to alot of the tactical brands as the mall ninja I was. Have a lot of Emerson, Benchmade, Spyderco. In the last several years I've moved to more gentlemen folders as I spend alot of time at work in business casual type attire where the sheeples frown on a black knife clipped to my pocket.

Most recently I've been picking up some small fixed blades that I can sheath and bury in a pocket. A got a Benchmade Activator, Folts Minimalist from CRKT and a few others I really enjoy.

I'm 54. My maturation process with knives began with cheap, overly tactical looking folders in the first year then moving out of the cheap. tactical part and into basic high end production EDC locking folders. A good sheeple friendly Spyderco is about as tactical as I get anymore. I haven't directed any interest in traditional folders yet. I don't see that coming anytime soon. I own four fixed blades and a SAK for practical purposes.

I'm 47. I began with knives around 13, although I'd always had a fascination with blades since probably around 4. I started out (obviously) with traditionals, from Camillus, Schrade and Ka-Bar.

My favorites, and the main types I buy (or have bought before) and carry, are:
Chris Reeve
Victorinox
Spyderco
Benchmade

I own more Spydercos than any other brand, followed by Victorinox. For me, a knife simply has to cut well, feel good in the hand, be of good quality, and carry easily/comfortably. That sounds obvious, but I've tried many, many knives that, while of good quality, have lacked one or more of the rest of my requirements (for my own purposes).

I am 54. All my knives are Spyderco, except my old SAK and recently purchased MCUSTA Cocobolo Take

I'm 27 and male.

I don't have a huge collection...I've been trying to fill different size/utility niches and explore what's available, so i have a variety of styles and often only one knife from any given brand.

The ones that come to mind right away are:

ESEE,
Victorinox
CRKT
Boker
Mora (Frost and Erikson)
Becker
Gerber
Spyderco/Byrd

The brands I have more than one of are Mora, Victorinox, ESEE.

Most days I carry a small fixed blade, and a multi-purpose knife like a SAK or leatherman, so i guess you could say those are my favorite kinds. For the last few days I've been carrying an Izula and Vic OHT.

These are my edged tools for the outdoors.

This is my EDC pool...some overlap with the above.

I am 19. I like many knives. Benchmade and ESEE are two good ones. The knives I realy like are custom. Especially ones with damascus.

15. Started off as a huge Benchmade fan, but then I discovered Spyderco, then customs. Looking to place an order for my first custom soon... Downhill from here :)
