Age Group?

Pretty funny Gary. Been there, done that and glad to be here now.

Would be nice if someone would run the numbers so we could see the oldest/youngest and the average age.

I swear I am the late guy to every thread lol I am of the 1980 vintage but with an old soul. Before February I had no idea there was such a thing as blade forums, GEC, TC barlows, and on and on. This has become one of my favorite places. The porch is my Zen spot :)

Average age is 45. Youngest is 15, oldest is 74.

Math isn't my strong suit, so don't, you know, gamble your life's savings on the accuracy of these results. :D

If there is any pattern at all there, seems like late 30s and around 60 seem to be the "clumps". Looks like the college-age men and women are too busy studying. :)

Yep, the two most common ages are 60 (9 members) and 35 (7 members). 39 comes in third (6 members), and then it's a bunch of ties from there on down.

It's nice to see the younger members represented as well. We need some young whippersnappers to balance out us geezers. They might teach the old dogs a few new tricks.

My opinion only - those 'clumps' tend to represent folk with disposable income, as well.
Something I had in short supply when I was college age.

You might be on to something there. I think the spread is great. The best part being the general feeling of respect and civility across the board regardless of age.

And 6 members not of legal age to purchase a knife. Just sayin'.... :D
At least in PA, under 18 is legal with parental permission.

Anecdotally, a good memory of mine that many kids who grow up where I'm from share is winning your first knife at the ring toss and bringing your parent (or over 18 friend) to give you permission to receive the knife.

That is not entirely correct. It is against the law for anyone under the age of 18 years to purchase a knife. Even in Pennsylvania. The Law is completely vague about POSSESSING a knife. And the Law is rarely if ever enforced. I am quite familiar with the knife laws of Pennsylvania.

I have done a little research into laws in WI regarding the legal age to purchase and carry a knife, as my 7 year old and 5 year old both carry knives on occasion. I have searched the state legislature site as well as search engine searches. As far as I've been able to tell, there's no restriction at all on age. The City of Kenosha has a law that states "No person, except a parent or guardian shall sell directly or give away any knife with a blade of more than two (2) inches to a child under 11 years of age." Ord. 11.06 (p. 13).", this would indicate that there's not a state law prohibiting selling to a minor (though I realize it's not definitive proof). This lines up with my own experience, as I remember buying a knife from a large sporting goods store when I was about 8 or 9. I don't know where those 6 minors live, but just because they're under 18 doesn't necessarily mean that it's not legal for them to buy a knife. Any one of them could come to WI and purchase a knife.

Either way, this whole line of discussion is probably better reserved for the Knife Laws subforum. I just didn't want to leave this dangling here, and allow those minors to feel like they had to defend themselves or that they shouldn't partake in these discussions for some reason.

Just because something happens, ie. purchasing a knife, doesn't mean it's legal. As I stated before these laws are mostly ignored nationwide. Doesn't mean they don't exist. If you look at any Online Knife purveyors site, there will be a Legal Disclaimer stating something to the effect that by purchasing a knife you are claiming to be Legally Entitled to purchase and possess said knife, mostly stating that purchaser is at least 18 years of age.
My original comment was meant to be tongue in cheek....see the big Smiley Face? Lighten up!
