What is it about delicas or eduras that lots of people like them so much? I have one and its ok but not as amazing as a bunch of people make it seem, who else feels the same?

Just curious what aspects of your Delica you feel particularly "meh" about. I have one that I like for its balance of weight, price, performance, and ergonomics. I certainly wouldn't say it's my favorite knife, or that it's my coolest knife, but it is certainly an excellent knife.

Its a good quality knife, but people seem to over rate it. If I was not a knife nut it would absolutely love it, but it just doesn't do it for me to me the FF just isn't there. But that's my opinion and on the totem pole of life my opinion amounts to whale crap.

I do like my Delicas (all of them!) and I see beauty in them.

Knowing her inside-out, I think my wife is an ABSOLUTE BABYDOLL while others may not see the beauty I see.

Because there is " 'beauty' in function " I think Glock handguns are beautiful. Others do not always see this.

I think parts of the coast are nice...people who live there 24/7 say "Meh...!'

For me I think the Delica hits a SWEET SPOT between;

COST
BLADE LENGTH TO WEIGHT RATIO
FACTORY EDGE SHARPNESS
OVERALL WEIGHT
OVERALL QUALITY
SPYDERCO QC*

*13-15 Spydercos bought in as many months...$35 to $185...NO PROBLEMS... As opposed to 3 ******** brand knives bought in 4 months...$175-$265..2 with problems with grip screws and lock issues

I didn't get a great appreciation for the delica or endura till I tried out several other knives. The delicate is a favorite of mine

yeah, I get what you mean about some knives being "overrated". I think it's just a reality of everyone having their preferences, and some folks get very effusive about how much they love their knives. I have similar feelings about the PM2 (blasphemy in many places, particularly here), where I like it as a knife, I carry it, I use it, I admire the great aspects of its design and construction, but I don't write poems to it - that's not a jab at anyone, since I think I actually did read an ode to the PM2 the other day on this forum, and it was a very entertaining read.

The appeal of the Endura/Delica lineup is the "bang for the buck" aspect. They are a pleasure to EDC and use, and they resell very well if you want to move them along.

I like G-10 and Carbon fiber as much as the next guy, but FRN is refreshingly simple, and I know grip will never be an issue with the molded in bi-directional pattern.

They're cheap, fit 2 sizes, come in different colors, and cut like lasers. Seems pretty good to me.

They hit the perfect price point for a lot of people and always deliver on performance. Sure theyre not the prettiest Spydie to look at, hell theyre far from being an attractive blade. But as a utilitarian tool they are hard to beat. You dont feel bad it you beat on one either. Im much happier to lend someone the delica than my s110v native or any other sprint run of mine.

I think you pretty much nailed it. The Delica is such a tremendous value EDC knife. I carry one everyday at work and no plans to replace it.

Everyone finds beauty and value in different things. I know this blasphemy on the Spydy forum but I can't bring myself to like the PM2. It's a great knife but I just prefer a Caly 3.5 or a BM 940. I'm not saying they are superior because the PM2 is way more durable but I just prefer to EDC them.

The Delica has many attributes that people find attractive. It weighs very little, is thin in the pocket, fits the hand, flicks like a dream, cuts like a razor (especially the FFG), and shows up in your mailbox for under $60. It may not be the ultimate knife, but its probably the one I would pick if I had to have just one knife.

I have a Delica, and it's OK...a little small for my hands and kinda awkward to open. The Endura is a lot bigger, almost too big for my EDC use, but the FFG versions of both make phenomenal slicers. The VG-10 steel is pretty good, I would rate it roughly on par with like 14C28. What I found was that the perfect size compromise along with ease of operation to be the Manix 2 Lightweight.

I own a Delica and 2 Enduras, so here is my opinion...

The Delica is a good clean design, it is thin and light, made from good materials.

But, I don't like either one all that much because I prefer G10 to FRN, and I really do not like lockback knives. I much prefer actually using a Para 2 or Manix 2. Today I am carrying a Manix 2 LWT S110V, and the goodness of the blade makes up for the FRN scales, but it is very light which is also somewhat of a good thing.

Delica owners use their Delicas alot. You may find yourself carrying it more than you thought you would. easy carry, easy edge maintenance, affordable, no reason not to use the hell out of a Delica. They work.

It's just one of those knives that always ends up back in my hand or in my pocket. It really grows on you with use.

I have a lot of other honestly nicer knives, but once you own and use a Delica for long enough, you find they are just nice to use because they work well.

I think you're reading into all the Delica love and praise all over the net in the wrong context. Don't look at it as being kool-aid hype as the greatest, highest-quality, most precise, exotic, etc knife in existence that dominates all others, because it's not that knife!
It's just a SIMPLE knife that WORKS and is affordable. There is a lot to be said for that alone.
It's like a good pair of Levi's jeans, or Redwing boots or something. By no means the fanciest stuff out there, but they work well for a lot of people.

The Delica was my first Spyderco a little over a month ago, I thought they were weird looking until I held one. Was it perfect? No, I had to smooth a minute amount of flashing but that's it. I also feel the neck where your pointer finger rests was too thin from spine to front, I just don't get very good purchase at that spot. It fit my hand better than anything else I'd looked at. I did see the quality too, I paid $60 for it. I liked it well enough and thought the quality to dollar ratio was very fair. It made me want to try the more expensive Spydies. I've never had a knife fit my hand as well as Spydies do. I'm beginning to think Sal or Eric Glesser's hands are the same size as mine:D If the quality was that good for the Delica, how nice would the higher priced options be?

That was 5 weeks ago. I liked them so much that I have 5 Spydies with 2 more in the mail (Delica, PM2, Manix 2 G10, Manix 2 DLC, Tenacious, Stretch, and Sage 3) making 7 total as I type this. I got the Delica first over the Tenacious, because what if the folders made in China were poor quality but the other knives were great? They were better, but I was very impressed with the Tenacious none the less. I haven't had a single problem with any Spydies so far. I have 2 SOGs that cost more, use cheaper steel, don't lock up tight, and have very little traction. I have them adjusted to the point that they open ok but they still wiggle. I've been playing with that Delica for 5 weeks, not one bit of wiggle.

Right now I have all the Spydies I really wanted, I'm counting the two that are in the mail and on their way of course. I even have a Sharpmaker on the way, can you tell I like Spyderco? If you look at everything you get with Delicas and Enduras or any Spyderco for that matter you'll find it's hard to beat the price to quality ratio. Now add the function over form way that Spyderco designs their folders and you have a big winner. That's why they're so popular.

Traded into an Endura 4 Wave. Hated the why it felt in my hand so much it was in the mail the next day being traded for a Stretch(better but still not my favorite) tomorrow my Delica 4 I got off the exchange should be here and I'm hoping to love it.
