ahhhh, the famous delica.....

I love everything about the delica except for the lock mechanism.

If they put a different lock on it, one I could easily use one handed....I'd have a few.

At the moment, my lightweight FRN is a manix 2 because it solves the lock problem.

Give the back/mid-lock some practice! Just as easy to close one-handed as the stiff cbbl on a Manix 2.

I've been carrying my SS Delica 4 PE every day lately. I like the SS frame, and prefer the hollow saber grind over the flat saber grind of the regular D4. I can also wear it clipped, because it doesn't chew up my pants. My first Spyderco was a Delica back in '97. Hard to believe I've been carrying/using Spydercos for over 17 years.

...The beauty will be found in the consistent, long term, reliable high performance.

Since 1991 I have used this Delica for anything and everything. It still has drywall stuck in the handle from 15 years ago. It has not been treated particularly well. It started life as my "beater" knife while I worked in construction. It then became my least expensive knife and was subjected for years to the more undignified cutting tasks. But here it is today...ready to go for more...24 years old...having earned so much of my respect that it is now in my eyes truly beautiful!

The Delica has many attributes that people find attractive. It weighs very little, is thin in the pocket, fits the hand, flicks like a dream, cuts like a razor (especially the FFG), and shows up in your mailbox for under $60. It may not be the ultimate knife, but its probably the one I would pick if I had to have just one knife.

I noticed your lower left Delica is the same I have and I think I snapped the clip off it about three times in a year and finally
Spyderco ground off the edge of what was left and drilled and installed my current clip, that was in about year 1996 I think.

Yes I love my one and only Delica b/c I have had it for SO long. I couldn't ever let it go!
If I had to chose only one knife, it would be hard but the Delica might win. :D

I love the steel, I love the ergos, I like how many variations there are...

A gentleman from Europe sent a picture (and list) to me of his Delicas collection. He had 83 different variations. He wanted to know if there were any I could think of that he doesn't have. I met him at the A'Dam meet. Neat guy.

So did he have them all? or are there more?
That sounds like a very nice collection

When I'm not at work, I edc whatever model Spyderco I'm in the mood to grab,
but this thread made me take the other brand I have edc'd for work for years out of my pocket and grab my Delica for work today.

Yeah... Tried the Delica today. It'll be going back tomorrow. Just not for me. I totally understand the appeal of the knife from a design and use perspective. But I didn't really like the ergos, and really missed having a 50/50 choil. I'll take a shorter cutting edge with a choil if it gives me full purchase on the handle in a smaller knife.

Great knife, just not for me.

Delica has been in the work pocket since Monday and I think that is the one that is going to stay there,
I flipped the clip over to carry it left handed and It's been great.
I'm not left handed but carry my work knives in left pocket because of how I fill my pockets with work stuff for daily use

I like my D4 FRN, It's my EDC. For me it hits just the right size for a good, hard working pocket knife. Thin and light enough to drop into a pocket (I don't usually clip). Small enough for use in an office environment with a sub 3" blade, but plenty of cutting power with a nice handle to blade ratio. Easy to sharpen (I use a Sharpmaker). Easy one handed open, easy one handed close. It just works well for me.

When wearing suits or shorts I'll often go with a DF2.

I got a Delica a while back as a gift, it way first
pocket knife in a while, and before I started getting I to knives. It handled everything, and I took it everywhere, including every day in the oil patch. It's a knife that does everything it needs to do, slices well, carries easily, and doesn't cost a fortune as a quality knife. I edc a sebenza now, but you can bet that when I backpack through South America this fall, the delica will be the one in my pocket. I'm even on a waiting list for some new scales for it now, because I respect it so much.

Imo, because they're the perfect mix of high end & average joe price point, out of all the knives in their catalog.

This is a quote from another thread I started a while back, but it states clearly how I feel about the Delica. I would have posted this up sooner, but posting from a phone just plain sucks regardless of how you do it.

I do not own a Military or Paramilitary yet and I have not handled them so I can not speak knowledgeably about these knives.

What I can speak about is the Delica. I have owned many of these and have purchased them for gifts in a variety of flavors.

I love this freakin' knife. I feel like it is the "working mans" knife. It is readily available. It is affordable. It comes in a variety of configurations. It is easy to manipulate for large or small hands. It is a great performing blade that will handle a wide variety of cutting tasks. It is easy to maintain. If not abused, will last practically forever.

It is one of those unassuming knives that delivers and just shouts Spyderco.

And after all... how many Spyderco collections has this knife started? I would venture to say quite a few.

This is why I think that at least one Delica should be in every collection.

I like hearing everyone's opinion on this so keep them coming. I have already started a list of knives that I will be purchasing because of this thread!
