ahhhh, the famous delica.....

What is the point of the Kahr Delica? They knocked off .5" of blade for what reason?

Got this off one of the sellers websites.

"The Spyderco manufactured Kahr Delica 4 is based on a modified blade design from self-defense expert Michael Janich. The 2.5" blade has been chosen to make the knife legal to carry in larger urban areas like Boston and Chicago, while maintaining the intended utility of its design. It features a smooth thumb ramp."

The point is probably the point. :p
Without reading into it, maybe tip strength, and also posssible legal reasons for certain regions? Just a guess.

I do have one I purchased as a factory second just to have for fun, and it ended up going out into my shop to be a work knife because it seemed fairly stout.

Edit: ah you beat me with an actual quote! Nice. Well atleast my guess was half close, haha

Love my high end production folders, but for the past month my EDC was my new VG-10 Delica after getting rid of my ZDP version. Ok well the Military did get the most carry last week. It came so ridiculously sharp, and a spaceman clip makes it perfect. It's no frills, utilitarian at its core. You don't even think about beating on it if you have to. If you're a guy who needs a good EDC without breaking the bank and are content with having one knife for several years, the Delica is that knife.

It's not a great knife because you say it isn't? I think for at least $20 less it is a much better value as an EDC over the Mini-Grip. People over think things when they hear how great the Delica is. They buy one and are left underwhelmed. It is a simple no nonsense EDC knife for a great price.

BM has the Mini-Grip, Kershaw has the Leek, and Spyderco has the Delica. All three are "value EDC's" and I just prefer the Delica myself but opinions obviously differ on the subject.

For me it's not a great knife, like you said opinions very.

BTW, I've got your ZDP Delica. ;)

My first Spyderco was an Endura then a PM2 but found them a bit too large for me to EDC. Then I tried a Delica and it was perfect! I have several Delicas now and EDC a ZDP almost exclusively.

Fits the hand well, good value, several options in style and steel - what's not to like?

Ha, hope you enjoy it! These are not meant to be perfect knives. They're meant to be ergonomic workers, and they excel at that. I couldn't see myself without one.

It's a personal preference I guess ... Small hands like them a whole lot. I've on the other hand moved to Manix XL from Paramilitary 2 as it feels best in my hand. I have a delica but it's been shelved due to uncomfortable feel of a knife too small...

I like the ergonomics of the XL. I've also found it to be much smoother to operate than the regular Manix 2 in G-10.

+1 on the Delica being a value knife that excels at being a cutting tool and is easy to carry.

+1 on the Deep Carry Clips from Casey

+1 on the pics

I'm getting back into Spyderco after being away a long time, and trying a lot of different knives. I got this Delica and have been carrying every day for the the last week. It carries well, it's a pretty solid slicer, and I don't have big hands, so the ergos are fine for me. It's more value than the Mini Grip, and I've had a few of those. I put down my Ritter MG with custom scales, standoffs and Deep Carry clip to try the Delica for a while, and what I missed most was my clip, so I stopped by Casey's thread and I'm good to go. I picked up a Dragonfly in ZDP-189, and I like that little life a lot, too. I'm getting into the Spydies quickly, it would seem.

Endura or Stretch.

I came full circle with the delica. It was my first spyderco and I wasn't a fan of the back lock or FRN. After a couple years carrying and trying 20+ different spyderco designs I came back to the delica and now realize how amazing the knife really is! It's in my top 4 favourites for sure

Hi Suspect,

In my opinion; As you walk on the path that will be your life, you finds things that you don't like, and you discriminate away those things. You cut away the things that are are not the way you prefer. What you have left is your goals and dreams as you narrow the direction of your path.

We have been cutting away all of the undesirables we've learned from our customers in 25 years of manufacture. (CQI) The goal was high function, with looks being much less important. We wanted to be the knife in your pocket to do the job best, and not be the knife on your desk that you oohh and aahh. The beauty will be found in the consistent, long term, reliable high performance.

I literally had to go to extremes and I did a gaw and gifted my delica away, it was my third one. When I got into the hobby i hated the delica and the lock and everything else.

Then I was gifted a really beat up delicata 3 from a forum member.

In use it soon became my favorite knife of any range. It didn't matter if it was my newest knife, $400 sebenza or custom that I picked up off the forum. Of I was doing housework or headed to 7-11 to get some milk I would find myself grabbing or the delica its a conundrum as a knife nut and wanting variety. By and large its a very perfect knife, thin like a traditional, nice user steel, easy to sharpen, great ergos, low maintenance, easy open and close!

The caly and ukpk are the same way unless you have giant pork chop hands!

I love the steel, I love the ergos, I like how many variations there are...

But most of all I love the size. 4.25" handle with a 2.875" blade is my favorite blade to handle ratio. And in my state, a blade under 3" you can carry without a pocket clip. I'm not a big fan of clips.

And it's great for the price. Other Spydies are quite a bit more expensive so Delicas are easier on the wallet to collect. And like I said there are quite a few variations.

I have big hands, but the Delica feels great in them. I think the reason is that the handle is more open-ended than other knives...like for example the Manix. There's a little hump at the butt-end of the knife that's supposed to hold your hands in place I guess but for me it just bites into my hand. I prefer knives like the Delica and the Chaparral because they allow my hand to breathe, if you will.

I love everything about the delica except for the lock mechanism.

If they put a different lock on it, one I could easily use one handed....I'd have a few.

At the moment, my lightweight FRN is a manix 2 because it solves the lock problem.
