ahhhh, the famous delica.....

The Delica and I didn't hit it off when I first got it and decided to get rid of it.

Before I did, however, I brought it along with me in a trip to Cape Town. I thought If I lost it/broke it/had it stolen I wouldn't be upset.

Used it exclusively for two weeks...and it became one of my favourite knives in my collection.

Give it a shot. It might grow on you.

Both the Delica and Endura are nothing special to look at (except for the SS :D). However, the beauty is using them. Such a useful design for most anything.

Bang for the buck. Allot of other knives have come and gone during this Delica's years of service. It still opens smoothly and locks up nice and tight.

At first I thought it was going to be just a pocket knife and aestheticly it's not all that but it's the sum of all parts and actually found it so amazing to use I would reach past my pm2 for it..... (Everyone gasp in disbelief) because it it is so easy to carry I've washed my delica in the wash from not taking it out of my pocket cause I don't know it's there more than any other knife.

How could you not like the Delica!!! They ROCK!! John

I just think its a little overrated.

I'm just curious now, what exactly was the overrating you saw?

Seems like all I'm seeing and reading is a resounding echo in here mostly saying "use a Delica, it works... for a long time and on a reasonable budget..."
(...and in so many varieties as well!)

Now are you feeling this outlook is over the top?
Would you be more in agreement if that should be toned down to, "use one only occasionally because they only partially work or wear out prematurely..."?

I also don't see anyone claiming the Delica can slice golf balls in mid air, or they used one to carve a thinking man replica out of granite... like a mighty PM2 can, lol :p ;)

Of course opinion and experience can vary so don't take my questions personally or as a drill, I'm just simply wondering. :)
Honestly when I first got a Delica years ago I may have also said it was a bit underwhelming, but like SO many people have said, over time and through use, it does grow on most people!

Name me a knife that's as no-nonsense, cuts as well, and is as ergonomic at around the same price.

Yeah, great knife, but where are they listed in the $50-60 range? Seems most I've seen were around $80+.

also, even if you get the lightweight version of the Manix 2, there's no getting around the fact that it is much wider and bulkier when carried in pocket, compared to the Delica. don't get me wrong, I have a Manix 2 that is one of my favorites, but I wouldn't rate it highly for pocketability on an objective scale.

I sacrifice a little with its size in my pocket for the way it deploys so easily and the way it absolutely melts into my hand

I do like my Delicas (all of them!) and I see beauty in them.

Knowing her inside-out, I think my wife is an ABSOLUTE BABYDOLL while others may not see the beauty I see.

Because there is " 'beauty' in function " I think Glock handguns are beautiful. Others do not always see this.

I think parts of the coast are nice...people who live there 24/7 say "Meh...!'

For me I think the Delica hits a SWEET SPOT between;

COST
BLADE LENGTH TO WEIGHT RATIO
FACTORY EDGE SHARPNESS
OVERALL WEIGHT
OVERALL QUALITY
SPYDERCO QC*

*13-15 Spydercos bought in as many months...$35 to $185...NO PROBLEMS... As opposed to 3 ******** brand knives bought in 4 months...$175-$265..2 with problems with grip screws and lock issues

Let me add to your list:

FITS YOUR HAND EXTREMELY WELL YET SLIM ENOUGH TO BE AN ACTUAL POCKET KNIFE
NO CHOIL YET ALLOWS YOU TO CHOKE UP IF NEEDED
VARIETY OF MATERIALS AND COLORS
LOVE THAT THE HANDLE IS LONGER THAN THE BLADE
BLADE SHAPE MORE CAPABLE OVER A BROAD SPECTRUM OF USES

What is it about delicas or eduras that lots of people like them so much? I have one and its ok but not as amazing as a bunch of people make it seem, who else feels the same?

I feel the same way. I was super excited yesterday while waiting for my Delica to show up and shortly after it did I was left wondering what the hype is all about. It feels ok in hand but its not great. Its definitely not a fondling knife or a flicker as the lock bar is pretty tight. The first time I opened it I got a nice round cut on my thumb from the hole being too sharp. Apparently they decided not to remove the burr from the hole... I only own about 6 Spydercos and this is by far my least favorite.

I think its an OK knife but its not a great knife like a lot of people say. For this size knife my Mini Griptilian is a much better choice for my EDC.

It's not a great knife because you say it isn't? I think for at least $20 less it is a much better value as an EDC over the Mini-Grip. People over think things when they hear how great the Delica is. They buy one and are left underwhelmed. It is a simple no nonsense EDC knife for a great price.

BM has the Mini-Grip, Kershaw has the Leek, and Spyderco has the Delica. All three are "value EDC's" and I just prefer the Delica myself but opinions obviously differ on the subject.

^ Of those three, the Delica is the better value. I think the Delica shines when you have to use the crap out of it. It's not the prettiest, nor is it the most fun to play with. It is, however, very functional. Now that I'm no longer opening boxes and packaged on a daily basis, I tend to carry something with an Axis lock or Compression lock. It's relative.
