It's not warm when she's away...

NOTE
: I love my parents more than anything, and I can understand where they are coming from, so I will not hold anything against them, and neither should you. ALSO HI FBI & NSA

WELP. LITERALLY 1 YEAR INTO THIS HOBBY (bought the CRKT drifter on April 13th 2017) AND... Time for a goodbye. AND to air out my dirty family laundry.

So remember how I posted a video of my Lionsteel roundhead? I enjoyed it and it was great. Unfortunately, my parents weren't as big of fans.

My dad came in with a "Don't you know the FBI's watching you, delete that g****m video" (read it like you're my chemical romance lol). So he told me to throw all my knives out until my mom stepped in. She explained to me that the FBI is watching me and that this might hamper my future in law enforcement (Jokes on them, because the FBI/NSA already knew about this considering my search history on Amazon to begin with).

I already knew that this would possibly be a reality so I was already prepared to throw everything away at a moments notice. They told me that they viewed them as weapons (which we've already talked about), and that advertising that I have weapons to the world is a way to destroy my future in law enforcement. TBH I don't really have a use for knives in my life, so I couldn't really justify having one (SD is not a viable use for me, and that will be the end of that conversation). (Cutting down boxes? Boxcutter. Opening letters? Scissors. Yes my knives did make them a little easier to handle, but it's not the end of the world)

So the compromise that they made me is that I could keep my sharpmaker, but had to throw out all the shiny and sharp things. No, I couldn't sell them because it would be the same as selling weapons to them. And they told me to pick up a new hobby so it's whatever. (I'll try and see if I can get back the money that I just threw away)

Please don't be angry towards them, they truly do care. And we come from a country where people are stabbed with kitchen knives, so please try to empathize with why having a Cold Steel knife is not pleasant for them to see.

It was fun while it lasted, and I really did learn a lot here. I might eventually pick up a multi-tool, or have my own collection when I actually get a job as an LEO, but it can wait for now. I'll keep this account (if what they said is true, then I've already made my bed) and still interact with the community as best as I can, make my youtube/insta private AF, delete all my imgur images, and have everyone's fantasy come true, not to have to worry about spending money on knives (yes I know it's different, let me have this lol)

I can't stress this enough, I still love my parents. Getting rid of my knives is something that I mentally prepared for since day 1 of making my first purchase. Also, I am too easy to DOX. And why don't I have my own place yet? Because it actually would've made this situation 10x worse. They would've stripped that place clean leaving me without even a kitchen knife to cook with. At least living at home allowed me to come forward on my own and get rid of everything that I have on my own terms.

...Anytime she goes away, anytime she goes away, anytime she goes away...

Wow. Just wow....

I highly doubt you won’t get a job in law enforcement because you like knives.

How many LEO’s got jobs years after surfing the web for guns or Porn or posting videos and pictures on Facebook smoking dope, being completely hammered or doing other assorted stupid stuff? I guarantee there are many. If every LEO was perfect, there wouldn’t be many of them. You won’t get a job bacause you are passionate about something that every LEO carries every day on the job? Nutty.

Sorry, throwing out your knives is unnecessary and a waste of money IMO. I completely disagree with your parents. Throw out your parents kitchen knives and scissors. They kill more people every year than folding knives.

What upsets me about this is that they didn't say we don't want weapons in our house. I would've been 100% fine with that and my collection would've stopped earlier.

That sucks, man, but good on you for your attitude about it and respecting your parents wishes and authority. I don't feel like they're being entirely rational or sensible, but it does sound like they're trying to think of your future and well being. I don't agree with the way they're going about it, but again, kudos to you for being a good, respectful son.

If this is the hobby for you, then this is nothing more than a brief hiatus and you can save up for shiny, sharp things in the future when you have your own place and career.

Good luck.

Heck yeah! I just wanted to get all the knives in my collection as fast as I could before I left for the IDF (I would've just placed them in a safety deposit box). And this teaches me a valuable lesson. Don't buy knives that are completely blacked out haha. (JK I love you cold steel)
On the upside, who says that I can't have a VG10 chef's knife?

If they're okay with kitchen knives Warther makes some very nice, affordable blades from S35VN. I use their French chef as my primary kitchen knife. :)

I would at least have my parents keep them for me until my career was settled.

This is an odd story. My mind races to figure out the full picture. Mazel Tov on going to the IDF, I think. You'll get good training and if you pick anvood specialty, a possible career. May I suggest medical training? Communication and electronics? Try to stay out of the OT.

Thanks for the suggestion because it is definitely in my price range! I will happily debate you on why their Santoku looks like a better fit for the kitchen in another thread ;)

תודה זיג! You don't need to worry about the full picture right now. I have a little ways to go before I ship out (want to finish my college degree so it'll look better). I do have some first aid training, and will probably take some more. But as far as going into the IDF, I will probably be placed in the back due to my asthma. (I can fake a lot of things, but I can't fake that)
