Has anyone had any contact with Al Polkowski? I ordered a knife from him several months ago. The knife was due to be started in Feb or March. I have not heard anything nor have I been able to make contact to enquire about a status.

Did you pay in advance for the knife, if not it's just a normal occurrence with some knifemakers. Scheduling seems to be something many makers are not that good at. I'd like a penny for every day a knife was late or for some that were never even delivered.

I know Al to be a stand up guy and I'm surprised you haven't heard from him.
Have you tried calling? 908/879-6030.

Ya I've called and emailed. The voice mailbox is full so messages can't be left. I sent a deposit in September. I was just concerned that something may have happened to him.

i would wager that al will take care of ya, i dont have a clue as to why its hard to get ahold of him, but something must be up, he's as straight up dead honest as they come, so like i said imho something must be up, health issues, something, he is one of a very small group of 'smiths who i can honestly say, in 12 yrs i have never heard anyone speak bad of him, not once..

keep trying to call him.........

Thanks for then advice. I too have only heard good things about him. That's why I ordered from him. I'll try reaching out some more.

He's had some health issues in years past that have set him back a few months, not sure if thats the case now. I've always emailed him with good results. I have a couple pieces coming up in a couple months too. Not to worry, Al's a good guy!

I put a deposit down on a knife from Al in April 09 and Al contacted me saying he was ready to start work on it in October 09. At that time I sent the remainder of the money.

I last had contact with him in January of this year when he emailed me telling me that he was having a lot of family issues that I won't get into here. I told him not to worry about my knife order as family issues are much more important.

Like you I'd like to have my knife but I have no doubt that Al will come through. I've never met him but some of the best people in the industry vouch for him and that's good enough for me.

I just hope he's doing well and making some headway with whatever issues he's having.

I made contact, he had some health issues again and is getting back on track- George

Good to hear that he is getting better. I still have not heard back from him despite many attempts at contact. I hope his health improves to the point, he will be able to fill the orders. I would really like a Polkowski blade. A quick email or call back from him would be greatly appreciated.

they are top notch, imho for a edc fixed blade al and bud nealy are hard to beat, both offer great designs, great knives with great ergo's, and excellent sheaths, i have 3 nealys and a polkawski companion and love all of 'em.

Unfortunately, I also fell prey to this. I paid deposit in April 2009, and paid the balance via PayPal in October 2009. I had some excuses initially, but then no response to emails. Voicemail is full.
I am an LEO. I filed a US Code 1340 Wire Fraud complaint.

I am working towards getting PayPal to shut down his account. He continues to take money and not provide product. Is there a mechanism to warn the members of this Forum and others that anytone can think of?

You are using it....and it works.

BladeArt recently posted some of Al's knives for sale which I took as a sign that he was possibly making knives again.

I'm going to follow-up with an email to check on his status/my knife order.

It seems that, I am not the only one who has now had a bad experience with Al Polkowski. Even though, I only sent a $30.00 deposit for my knife over a year ago, I have yet to hear anything from Al polkowski. I have called and emailed numerous times with no response. At this point, I can only assume he is not the honorable man I have heard of. A shame someone once so highly regarded has sunk to the level of fraudulant business practice he has.

Hope this turns out for the best. I highly doubt Al went bad, but I can understand the frustration from lack of communications...
