I would like to see Cabelas offer the AG 110 in some different handle styles as they have in the past. Maybe a white micarta or ??????

I figured this would be as good a place as any to see if Buck (Joe) could market a little harder to Cabelas to offer a new limited run every year. I think an S30V 124 would be an outstanding addition to the collection as well. A white micarta handled 124 with a black AG blade with serrations and a lanyard hole would fit the bill nicely for starters. Maybe a matching white 110 and Vanguard could follow. Just dreaming.

I think it works in the other direction. Cabelas decides what special special products they want for their brand and then they contact Buck for a commission. No doubt consultations take place then between the two concerning design, price points, etc. and then the contract is made for the production run. In other words, I think Cabelas, not Buck, is the one to contact with your ideas and suggestions or requests.

Hi Sudo,

An AG 124 would be sweet! I'd just like to have one of the AG 119's that Joe's BCCI news letter LE/SO list shows was made last year. I never saw one of these knives and could not get anyone from Buck or Cabelas to say if they were made or not. This year there is a new AG 113. It never hurts to ask;)

A 119??????

If they made an S30V blade that big......they may have run into problems.

Maybe that's why the information went opaque.

Well, that's a good question. S30V has always been accused of being prone to edge chipping and rolling problems, but such things have been minimal with knives made by Buck--probably due to the superior BOS heat treat.

I'm sure that I've read of other manufacturers running into even more problems when S30V was used in larger blades.

Maybe it's just because big, general use knives get beat up more than folders.

Anyhow, Buck has never made an S30V blade as large as five or six inches. There must be a reason for that.

The story of an S30V 119 and then a blackout of information makes you go.....hmmmmmm.

I'm with you, BG; I think they definitely would hear some crying if they made an S30V blade that large. The warranty department would be replacing one broken blade after another.

In 2004 Buck produced the 805 (5" blade) and the 819 (6" blade) and later added the 803 as part of the signature series, all in S30V. They were based on the 105, 103 and 119. I don't know how many of those ever became real users, but that's at least one 119 (sort of) that had an S30V blade.

Interesting. I never even heard of the 819.

I wonder if they made the entire 1000? Often they end up making far fewer than the projected number.

I suppose very few would actually be used for any heavy duty work.

I have to search "819" and "batoning."

;)

If S30V will not work for an AG 119, how about D2? I've always kicked myself for not buying a BG-42 master series 119 when I had the chance...

My Mother has an 805 Signature Series she keeps in the sheath in a kitchen drawer. It's her favorite kitchen knife, and I only have to touch it up every few months.

I'll tell you what, somebody should request that they make an Alaskan guide 103 skinner, that would be soooooooooo sweet!

The Buck custom shop also has S30V blades for the fixed Alphas. I find it funny how some folks always have to trash the AG's & S30V. Show us your own field tested proof that there is an issue with this steel or stop bashing it in every post! BG, maybe you can show us your scientific study showing that it's problematic in larger blades or just a problem at all (i'm interested to see your scientific study data.

Try not to have a cow, JB......

:D

This is what I said......where you get what you wrote.......is hard to figure.

Somebody noted that Buck has made some limited editions with blades up to six inches, but they never have made a mass production knife like that. When they do......I'll test them.

:)

Yeah, I also would LOVE a big blade in D2!!! That is one seriously tough steel! Holds up very well in large blades, is not as brittle as S30V by a long shot.
A 119 in D2 would be on my hip every day.

Seems like the tough D2 would be the perfect match for a big 124 or a 120.

Of course.....we could dream a little and hope for BG-42 or an old fashioned throwback model in 440C.

:)

LOL,S30V is great steel for a fixed blade. The stories of breaking, chipping and rolling come from those who have no experience.:)
