You mean in S30V.

And again, I wonder why they haven't done it.

Clearly there are a good number of people who would buy them.

The only reason I can see that they don't make one is that they foresee a lot of warranty problems because their tests have shown that the edge stability of a knife that size in S30V would not hold up to the rough use a big, general purpose knife like that is sure to get.

Maybe you should start a new thread to discuss those vitally important issues, Dave.

Do it.

Clearly your concerns need attention.

Tell that to Chris Reeve and a thousand or more Special Forces.http://www2.knifecenter.com/item/CRKGB/chris-reeve-green-beret-7-inch-s30v

Naww BG, I'm done. All your talk of "context", etc. is nothing more than you trying to crawfish your way out of having made an incorrect statement and not wanting to admit your mistake.

Sorry I didn't know you speak for the folks that run Buck knives and their tests and warranty department.

BG your like a fart in the wind, you don't know which way your going to blow! The OP was talking about AG knives, you changed the topic to S30V steel bashing and S30V blades 5 to 6 inchs...no talk about Buck until you go put into a corner. Over and over in this thread you have been proven wrong and then you change direction. Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining....LOL. As Dave said...I'm done with you and your single handed distruction of another nice topic....MOD's please do something about this guy!

I didn't say that I did.

You're getting sidetracked again.

Wrong on all counts.

The OP said he'd like to see a 124 in S30V.

I said that might be a problem because there have been reports of problems with S30V in big knives like that.

You and a few other people got upset and started attacking me personally and getting way off topic--God knows why, since this was just a simple discussion of the topic at hand.

Oh yeah......you mean this POS excuse for a knife.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THD8gfltq2o&feature=related

Watch if you want a good laugh.

The edge went after batoning five or six times through what looked like some nice dry wood.

It was all downhill from there.

There will always be one idiot that can destroy anything... As Plumer said, that knife has been used by many soldiers, and still seems to be highly regarded.
There is a big difference between people that use a knife for its intended purpose, and some clown that does nothing but try to destroy perfectly good knives in his garage.

It wasn't the "destroying" (the blade broke at a point far earlier than other knives).....not at all.....it was THIS that caught my attention.....

The edge went after batoning five or six times through what looked like some nice dry wood.

It was all downhill from there.

That's easy to see. It was straightforward and obvious. And, rather than "one idiot," there are plenty of testers who came to the same conclusion about this S30V knife (including Cliff Stamp, who has been testing knives for many years).

It's becoming clear that the S30V does not work well in a large, general duty knife where it might have to cut bone or wood......just as I proposed at the beginning of the thread. S30V does well cutting flesh and it resists rust pretty well. Good in smaller blades used for skinning and processing.....not so good for heavy duty work as as some other steels.

Maybe that's why Buck has never made a knife like that in S30V (as I've been saying all along).

Now, I don't expect those who are determined to see S30V as a super steel to change their minds.

Indeed, they have made up their minds and don't want to be confused by any uncomfortable facts.

People are real stubborn about steel.

:)

Is that video an example of the "scientific method" of testing that you are so fond of quoting BG? :D ;)

No, but I did find it entertaining to watch that S30V edge go with just a little cutting through wood.

;)

He said the Strider he tested did far better......I wonder if that was ATS-34?

Probably.
