All-American Knives?

O OrangeBlueOrangeBlue

I might be missing it but are you trying to make a point that Spyderco isn’t an American company? There was a time where Spyderco made nothing in America.

Maybe I missed the entire point of the thread and it’s referring to 100% American made. If that’s the case I apologize.

I don't think a company like Buck, Kershaw, or Spuderco that have entire lines made outside the US can be considered to be doing as much as possible in the states. Doing as much as possible in the states would mean zero knives get made overseas
Your opinion is not accurate. Entire line ? That’s a big exaggeration. Maybe you should get better informed! I think you also missed the point of the original post or you’re just trying to make this one yours.

It's an opinion dude, it's just as accurate as anyone else's lol.

The OP said what companies try their best to do everything in the US. There are plenty of companies that make every single knife in the United States.

But please explain to me how a company that makes knives in China is doing everything possible to make everything in the US? I'd love to hear it so please better inform me 🙄

Nah, you didn't miss it, I just wasn't clear about it in the original post!

I knew this was a subject that people held strong feelings about, and for what it's worth, I want to say thank you to everyone for keeping it pretty polite.

I guess you have to decide for yourself exactly how American you like your knives. If a company outsources some production while keeping other product lines here in the States, then I could see that being a stumbling block for some people.

Without thinking about it, I did end up drawing a line with the title of the thread, when I said "All-American Knives", instead of "All-American Companies". But, like I said, that was just my choice of words, not a conscious decision.

If it helps, let's start with just knives that are made in the States, and save corporate-level stuff for some other time. Mostly because I have the feeling that if you try to stick to companies that make all their knives here, you'll be down to mid-techs, and some of us aren't ready to spend mid-tech money, just yet.

You titled it All American Knives but then in the post asked about Companies that try to do everything possible in the US. That's where some confusion is coming from then.

To me than means production is 100% in the United States and materials are sourced here as well if possible. Certain materials, as others have stated, are only created or sourced from other countries and so there is no way around that if you desire to make a knife with that material.

Company wise though, making entire knives in other countries isn't even an attempt at doing things here unless you count them having an office here

Nope. Not all USA made
True.
The 100 series fixed bades, and folders (110/112) are, I think the 500 series and the 55 are, and the 301 and 301 stockmans.
I don't know which (if any) of the modern folders and fixed bades are.
At least the offshore knives have the same forever warranty as the made in Idaho knives.

I did make things confusing, didn't I? Huh. There's that cognitive bias about "what I was thinking", compared to what I actually said.

Whups.

I believe that many of the modern folders from Buck are US made. Marksman and Vantage come to mind.

Anyway, everybody should have at least one Case knife.

You probably can’t name the model series or tell the numbers of which knives are made where. I’ve heard many people say ridiculous statements that aren’t anywhere near the actual. It’s better if you can have the accurate information than just spouting off a general opinion that becomes a rumor. As far as Buck, I read that in 2018 15% were foreign made and in 2019 they were talking about even fewer than that but then covid hit and I haven’t heard anything since.

You would probably be surprised at how many companies have knives or parts made in foreign countries. They don’ like to say or advertise because of exactly what is being said in places like this forum.

I would rather all USA companies made all their knives here in the USA but that was out the window decades ago.

Sure hope everyone is using 100% USA computers, phones, and tablets to post here.
The "well your phones made in China is the worst arguement ever" it gets used all the time like a GOTCHA. There are tons of awesome USA knives equal in quality to the Chinese ones. You can't buy a phone made entirely in the states but you can buy a knife. Buy American when you can not solely! I know you are probably just trolling, but this comment gets posted so much and it is laughable as an argument.

I could absolutely tell you if I cared about Buck. It's not exactly a secret where their knives are made, it says on their website the ones that are made overseas.

And no I would not be surprised at all how many companies have knives made overseas. I know where knives I buy and care about are made and which companies make things where. It is very public information, not sure why you think they try to hide it.

Not really. Folks are trying to signal their virtue by stating they only buy USA knives while using hardware from outside the USA. To me that's pure hypocrisy.

Compounded by the special snowflakes who think a US company with international presence is worthless.

I"m not in the US. A lot of people aren't in the US. Crowing about the size of you belt buckle to prove you're a patriot is a joke.

That’s all I can think of. A few of those companies probably use hardware or other small components made in China, but nobody really knows.

Why do you even care at all the reason why a person wants to buy knives or anything else from their own country ? You seem to be most happy trolling on all the forums just to stir discontent. If you aren’t happy about things that’s your problem, you don’t need to try and make things miserable for everyone else.

So why do you care?

In case you missed it, you came into a thread asking about companies that do work all in the USA. Nobody was talking poorly about companies that do work overseas, it was just a discussion about the one's that don't. Not sure why that offends you so much lol
