All in on jacks

Those are some really nice knives! I just inherited this little one recently along with an old Imperial Scout Knife from my great uncle.

Here are 3 of my jackknives. (Left) - GEC Midnight Blue Big jack. (Center) - EIG Cutlery, Solingen, Germany. (Right) - Wm Enders Mfg. Co, St. Louis, MO.

GEC Big Jack...Reminds me of being a kid.

EIG Cutlery...Don't know much about it. I believe EIG was an importer of knives and guns...

Wm. Enders Mfg. Co., St. Loius, MO. This may be my oldest knife. I tried to dig up some info with inconclusive results. I know there was some association at some point in time with EC Simmons of St. Louis. Maybe someone here can shed some light on this rascal.

Here's another old knife that belonged to my folks. I don't know if it qualifies as a jack, it's about the size of a peanut. It's a Sabre Monarch 208 (USA) and it appears to be fairly well built with excellent walk and talk on both blades. I'm guessing it's at least 60 years old.

I was the very lucky recipient of a package from bakerg2g (Jason) today that had a fabulous 2009 BF Barlow in it. I've been whining and walking around with my bottom lip poked out for months because I joined here too late to get in on it. Jason was nice enough to offer it to me and I couldn't refuse it. I am so grateful to him for selling me this knife. Thank you Jason, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

It's nice to see this thread surface from the depths. I don't think I've posted this harness jack. It's stamped Eagle but was made by NYK Co. Eagle took NYK Co. seconds, ground the name off the tangs and restamped them.

Yes, it's been very rewarding to see this thread revived. Lot of essential material on view here.

Mike R, wonderful jigging on that Harness J you just showed.

Ed, you scoundrel you got a really fine Forum 09 there, congratulations!

Wow!!! I've been upgraded to scoundrel!!!! Thanks for the comments William.

I've been looking around for the next jack knife to get. Can't make up my mind; there's too much variety out there. I think I want to get another Kabar jack of some description because I like the two I have so well.

... or perhaps a harness jack .... Mike, that one you're showing is beautiful.

Take care. - Ed J

My advice would be to try a Schatt&Morgan Harness Jack in carbon. It's an equal ended job and actually made by Queen. Fine Spear with longpull, nice strong spring but not over the top. Speaking as a scoundrel myself, it's a very fine knife that seems to get better all the time:D

Here's a Remington Jack (R155) I've posted it in the
"Old Knives" thread. But I like this one, So I thought
I'd post it here as well....

Thanks guys. I bought that knife because I liked the bone, but now I like the pattern. Of course, Charlie owns all the rest of the harness jacks in the world but at least I have one.

Nice Remington Jason.

Ed, no it's a carbon version. It has the blade and awl at the same end. I believe Charlie/Waynorth had a hand in the creating of these. Will send you a message.

Posted before but one more for the jacks thread. Bruce Bump made this based on a jack knife in an old Holley catalog I had sent him. I had also sent him a Southington jack to look at.

It has his feather damascus and mammoth scales.

Bruce did a nice job on this one,

And that Damascus really pops!

Mike, this thread sure needed that Bump jack. What a wonderful piece!!! - Ed J

GEC makes a #54 pattern called a Big Jack, but all the others in this picture are the same size or bigger.

Starting at bottom left going clockwise: Northfield Stag Big Jack, Tidioute Burnt Grizzly Big Jack, Northfield Stag Furtaker Trapper,
at 1 o'clock we have the Great Eastern Furtaker Trapper, a File & Wire Daddy Barlow, and in the center a File & Wire English Jack.

The Big Jacks and the File & Wires have half-stops, the Furtaker Wharncliffe Trappers do not, but all snap like crocodiles!
