An estimate of 1886-1890 according to the data and history written in Sargent's 5th Edition, pages 33 - 37 written by Jim Sargent.

I'll dig a little deeper in some of my other references later as well.

Vince, Can you kindly photograph the tang stamp please??

Yes the knife itself is that old imo, although the scales may perhaps be replacements and more recent.. Very nice knife to be sure in any event. Maybe when you are feeling more up to it you can take some pix of the tang stamp?!

Please feel better in the mean time!

Oh, and watch out for 'Earl' as I believe he is headed up your way in a week or so! :( :thumbdn:

Many Blessings,
Anthony

The Fighten Rooster knife is pretty neat. Got to make one. What number or pattern is the knife does anyone know?

Anthony...that Case..it's a lovely knife!!, as is arathols' 6231.

Vince, Im thinking that that Cattaraugus is Great..and how awesome is that...that it has excellent action-it says something about these neat old knives we love so much!

Another smaller jack, nothing fancy but a bit unusual. An older Imperial boys knife, half-stops, painted shell handles and suspender button chain

I like to keep these older threads running currently, in case some of our newer members haven't seen all of the great knives within these pages.

Here are a few Tidioute #73 Scout Jacks with the nicks where I like 'em!

This thread opened up to me a lot of information and definitions about jacks. I have thoroughly enjoyed the thread and since my earlier post, I have obtained a couple more jacks that probably need to show up in this thread. First, my most recent Winchester jack that Jason Baker was so kind as to sell me at a reasonable price (shown with that mini copperhead that hogs my pocket and photos too it seems):

He also sold me these two knives which include the Schatt & Morgan coke bottle jack (and the mini Copperlock, not a jack):

I picked up this well used and loose EO Camillus jack a while ago:

My two Kabar jacks, one featured in a recent thread I started and the gunstock was given to me by forum regular Wilgoy (thanks again, William):

I picked these two Schatt and Morgan jacks from an internet seller (Clarence Risner); a coke bottle jack (with a clip main on this one) and a swell center jack:

A couple of Boker Barlows:

and a Winchester coffin jack:

I may have picked up one or two more, but this is the most of them since my last post.

Thanks for showing the Gunstock Ed.

That Swell Centre in Wormgroove from Schatt is a very decent looking knife. Double spring I assume?

Regards, W

Willliam, yes the swell center Schatt is a double spring. Nice knife, but wider than it has to be. One thing about having a spring on each blade is that you still have a usable blade if a spring breaks. Not an everyday occurance thankfully. - Ed J
