All New MountainManDu Coming Wednesday 12-13-17. . . Specs, Pics, & Pricing!!!

It’s encouraging to see a few people that have the original (or multiples of) still jumping on this one.
Must be a winner. I assume this will be a light fast chopper compared to other thicker variants or is it because of the full grind and infi option that’s driving people? Either way I’ve got one coming.

I passed on the originals, so I'm IN for a MMD SR-77 BIG Finish w/Green Canvas.
This will be my only SR-77 blade, and will be interesting to compare it to SR-101 and INFI.

That's a great catch thank you John! The BIG looks so nice I was switching back and forth between pics and could not tell the difference in the finishes to my eyes anyways. I cant see any tool marks in the BIG pic at all!

My catch wasn't so great after all. As others have pointed out here and on another thread, it appears to be the same picture with a different logo photoshopped. I guess that would explain the invivibility of the tool marks.

I'm a huge MMD fan and I'm really excited to see this release. That said, I wish we'd have seen one in SR101 as well. Looking the gift horse in the mouth I know....

I’m excited for the SR77 tough stuff and easy to sharpen. Had a SOD LE in FF and it was great. So glad for this release. The BIG FF SR77 was a no brainer. Now it all comes down to the handles and how they fit my hands.

For those that are wondering, I have one INFI BIG Finish NMFSH.
This is what that finish looks like:

Me too, and wish they were at the cost of the original MTNManDu's. :D Would have been in for sure, still might. Love that these are .22" and ffg. What to do what to do.

the full flat grind portion of your NMFSH looks smooth, only around the handle is it rough ... the MMD has less of an area where it will be rough by the handle(at the riccosso?) anyways, for $500 bucks it ain't cheap but i rarely pass up full flat ground big choppers from busse/kin, and this will be my first in BIG finish :)

I'm having trouble deciding as .220 might be the thinnest SR77 blade I can recall but I could be making that up. Im thinking infi will have better edge stability in this format. If it was a big fatty sr77 I'd definitely go that route but not sure on the FFG .220 in that steel.

Where's Cobalt at? I need his help

Scrapizashi Was .190
And
Yard keeper CG was .187

Like I said,.....I could be making that up but I believe those were sabre grinds as well versus full flat. Either way, take a look at that chart again and correct me if I'm wrong but .25 on up I think was more common with sr77.

Doesn't matter for me anymore. The MMD I just ordered was infi and the MMD I have now is .287 and sabre. But IMO, infi, for me is the way to go in a blade this style but again, that's just me.

But a MMD in any style or steel is a Win:thumbsup:

A big thin sr101 would've been sweet though:D

I have an MMD proto in SR77. It's 3/16 thick. After heavy batoning (using a big heavy baton, hitting very hard into knotty hardwood just to see what it would take) the edge warped a bit - a slight wave going along the edge. It wasn't a roll. Didn't affect performance in any way. And most importantly - no chipping of any kind. I could easily hammer it out and wouldn't notice the difference but the issue was so slight I haven't bothered. I'm pretty sure thin sr77 will handle the same abuse as infi will - only difference is that infi's edge won't deform under that kind of abuse, the mmd might need the occasional attention to bring it back to straight. Neither will be permanently harmed. For the price difference, a few seconds of work now and then seems well worth it for the sr77. Also, I don't protect the steel at all and have never had any issues with rust along the edge.

I am not worried about thickness at all for SR77. It will take it and then some. Even flat ground it will still have enough metal behind the edge to prevent easy deformation. Do not shy away from SR77, if you have ever wanted S7 with the best heat treat possible this is it. I am getting one.
