Really excited to try out this SR-77 steel. Should be fun to compare it against the new battle grade FBM
The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is ready to order! See this thread for details:
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/bladeforums-2024-traditional-knife.2003187/
Price is $300 $250 ea (shipped within CONUS). If you live outside the US, I will contact you after your order for extra shipping charges.
Order here: https://www.bladeforums.com/help/2024-traditional/ - Order as many as you like, we have plenty.
^ I agree.
The one area where S7 steel falls short is lateral strength. Bend it too far and it's likely it will stay bent per what I have researched from makers that have extensive experience with S7 (Scott Gossman). INFI will definitely shine in more ways than one on a blade with this FFG thinner profile
YMMV
While I agree with you that lateral strength favors INFI, SR77 will bend far beyond the point of where other steels would have snapped in two. I would rather have a thin blade of SR77 than SR101. In fact I would love to see a Busse machete out of SR77
^ Not saying that you can't bend it, just saying that to not expect it to go back to true straight again.
S7 is crazy tough....Just look what Scott Gossman subjected his S7 to in this link below;
https://bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/more-s7-testing.178865/
I'm quoting Scott Gossman's words here. "That's the only problem I see with S7 is that if it's bent two far say past 30 degrees, it won't bounce back. It doesn't have much bounce back flex like other steels. I do believe you can bend it 90 degrees without it breaking but it won't come back. Check out the link I posted for angelsword.com They damn near bent it 360 degrees before it broke but the broken piece stayed bent."
Agreed, an 18", maybe 16" blade. Smooth grip, thin coating.
Did you not watch the video and see the pics? SR77 and Busse heat treat comes back to true.^ Not saying that you can't bend it, just saying that to not expect it to go back to true straight again.

I love that video. A while back I showed it to a couple guys I work with and they all just stood there with their mouths hanging open. Lol!
....some flexi SR77 there for you....
And a very old link with a few residual pictures of the Dog Father (yes on the thicker side) getting some gentle treatment...

^ I guess I didn't, LOL.....Thanks for pointing that out![]()
I'd sign up for a couple like that!!!Agreed, an 18", maybe 16" blade. Smooth grip, thin coating.
anyone else have shipping quote 54.95?
I was about to place an order for two in INFI and the shipping is $58.95.
What is up with these shipping charges? That's nuts.
