David, I'll see if I have them. Don't hold your breath, though! J-Siah, I stopped because I moved and had to save weight by selling my heavy equipment, plus the hazard, solitude, etc makes it a very hard habit to really want to do. I enjoy it, but it just wasn't fitting my lifestyle very well.
 
I needed to make a 1/4 " fighter type blade, and couldn't locate 1/4" 10 series steel, so I bought some 5160. Anyone know if this will hamon?

This thread has been resurrected from the dead more times than Dracula.

10XX steels are readily available in 1/4" from most suppliers.
5160 is a deep hardening steel ands won't develop a hamon.

The Japanese never use oil, they use water...in there Heat Treatment methods...

They believe that oil doesn't produce the same results. And they don't...

its a real shame that i cant see the pics of your workmanship! The thing i love about this site is the way you can learn so much from reading old posts. Its a brilliant resource.
