All packed up for my camping trip

Looks like a great time, thanks for the pics. Sorry to hear about the chip in your Fiskars. I did something very similar with mine on my last trip, too, and had to spend some time with a file. But now it's ready to roll!

Excellent taste in long guns, by the way. The AMDs are a lot of fun. Hard to beat the AK as a bang-around gun, though the weight is never much fun to pack. Heck, a 1911 isn't much fun to pack...

I've never read that they commonly chip. When I was using mine, I was really using it. It gathered all my campwood, it made the stakes, it carved some cooking utensils, gathered wood to leave at the existing site for the next campers, etc.. It would have been quite easy for me to have hit some hard knots in an odd way or some rogue stones. All part of getting use out of your steel!

It look s like it was a great trip. Nice AK, cool doggie. Thanks for sharing, not only the pics but your gear list. I'm going camping this weekend, and now I don't feel too bad about all the gear I'm packing. We aren't hiking near as far as you did, but nevertheless a 40# pack is a 40# pack. Ugh.

I have never camped up around Kingman. Not sure of any place to recommend. Nice area though.

I am planning on doing some winter camping, a trip a month is probably what I will do. I usually do solo trips in the winter since most people I know don't do winter camping. It's usually just me and the critters. I have found no better way to test my gear and my mind.

Hi j33, winter trips work for me, i at one time in my youngers did do alot of snow camping in the heart of winter, thats when my blood and body were all working with each other, but now that in all most 48 years old its not so easy. But im in for the trip, i know i can do it. Any way sorry to any one on this forum that is unhappy with us for posting this, people that know me well, know that i try to stay with in the laws, and the law of this forum. So if any one can tell me what is ok to post, i will play on your side, sorry to all. As Kingman go's its cool to me, im open to other ideas, i will do it. Please J33psru1e, can you set this up for all of us, i will get you the dates im open by this sunday night. I know from your posting, this is the job you have the best skills for, its not my cup of tea. Thank you, your friend at the post Donald S.

Hey J33, i wanted to ask if you don't care if two of my friends from phoenix go along on the trip with us all, and it's ok with me is any people you or the others want to take along, im easy to get along with, i just had to add this to my posting now that im thinking about it. Any way, i want to meet new like minded people to have more camping time, and friends in the outdoors, i don't like to camp by my self, i tryed it, but its not for me, im a people kind of person, any way im making my list this week, the reason is i have three room with camping and outdoor survival gear, and need time to dig to find what i need, not just what i want, at my age i need to think this out. Any way thank you for your time, your friend at the post Donald S.

Hey some time when it kools off a little, may be we can take boats down on a fore-day colorado river paddle on the arizona side of the waters and camp only on the arizona side, i have all the maps and info in my arizona highways dated march 2000, i think it may be fun. Its about 65 miles of water, but i think a group of two to three in a boat can do the trip in three days, if we try. And we can pull a large tube from a tire with food in it, with the boats, just an idea, i have one three man colman 16ft long, the down side is we will need to get a ride to the drop off point, and a ride back from the pick up spot, so we may need 4 days to play it safe. and some good radios to talk to are pick-up person when we pick up the other radio, that may be with in two to five miles of the pick-up spot,Your friend at the post Donald S.

This is the first chip I have had with this Fiskars. The wood I was chopping was pretty darn hard. The chip was relatively small and did not impact the performance of the hatchet. I think the Fiskars are a great tool for the price, about $25.

Thats good to know. If you were looking to spend a little more and get an axe that would could use for harder work is there a particular brand you would go for? I guess I think of the axe I used to see my dad use every winter year after year. Seems like with a lot of tools, "they don't make'em like the used to" ;)

Are Fiskars axes know for chipping a lot?

I've hade a gerber (same thing) for about 5 years. I use it quite a bit. The worst abuse I've poured out onto it is to chop out roots / stumps in the back yard when I want to pull out a tree. If I can't get through a root with the shovel I grab the hatchet and whack directly into the dirt / root. I've done about a dozen stumps this way and have hit rocks. It does dull the blade, but have not had chips. I know this is ABUSE of a blade, but at the price, it's replaceable so I keep whacking away. Couple minuets with a sander and strop and I can shave arm hair again!
LOVE THE THING!

Glad you had a good time bro, looked a great place to camp !!!

I can't help thinking when I look at your dogs face and that little bag of kibble, that he's saying " is this the best that you got for me ?":D
