I don't own the Sykco 1111, so I can't comment. But the GSO 7/7 is hands down a better knife than the Sykco 711, IMHO.

why is the 7/7 such a better knife?

I would say ergos, balance, steel toughness, better build quality (even grinds), and lastly, I have come to prefer uncoated blades. Neither excel at chopping, but they will both do it. The GSO 7/7 is about 1/4" shorter than the 711, and the sheath on the GSO is better than any I have found for the Sykco line. But it is also more expensive, but not a great deal when you factor in the price of a sheath for the Sykco. Just my ththoughts, YMMV.
