Yesterday was a day of splitting wood. We are going to receive 7 days of rain so it’s much better to be prepared with dry wood.



Also collected more sap the last two days.



We took our nephews to see the new Mario Bros. movie after church today…dark theatre, popcorn and way too much candy makes a guy sleepy. Just staying awake was a chore! Haha!

Arriving home to collect 8 more gallons in the pouring rain tonight…ha! (Collected around 3 gallons this morning.)


So we now have another 300litres (80ish gallons) so tomorrow I will need to start another boil.

I hope everyone’s weekend treated them well.

(I’ll have some new leather to show off soon too!)

Got the boil rolling this morning. It’s pouring rain…but going well.

I’ve dug some trenches to help with water dispersal. I didn’t have enough time in the fall to get my floor done…so hoping to have that done by next year.



More later…gonna have to check the buckets for sap if the rain lets up a bit.

Good morning!

Day three (and last) on the boil! No rain, even thought they were calling for it.

Got things rocking and rolling around 5:30am. Hoping to be finished up by 5:00pm. Then leatherwork!

Got a nice roll on…


As the temp rises (no more sap to add), we start to get more foam and bubbles…


When the temp hits 212° we get a lot of bubbles and foam…as the foam/bubbles rise, we remove the syrup and strain.
