All Things Sharp & Fiery...and Friends!

We had a few hours before attending a Celebration of Life for a friend of ours that passed.

We went down to the beach to swim and cool down.

I grabbed a coconut and my BK16.

After cutting off the stem, I work the knife around the nut, then cut these spaced out pieces.

Gotta be sorta careful, as I thinned this blade up on a King K80. The tip is zero ground, which makes for great penetration, but also means gotta take it easy on the prying.

After enough cuts are made, you can muscle off the fibers. I like using simple carbon steels, as sand will chip out harder edges.

A quick rinse in the fresh water from the river.

Take the spine and start whacking the nut around the circumference until it cracks.

Start cutting the meat and scooping out flakes. A fixed blade is way better than a folder at this, as there would be a lot of pressure on a folder pivot.

Not a bad snack.

I prefer kydex, as I can just rinse out the sheath in the river to flush out sand and debris. This is a cheapo no-name one. I just ordered another from azwelke azwelke that will replace this one. Much higher quality and not to mention Al is a stand-up guy.

How did you know the water was too mature to drink MolokaiRider MolokaiRider ?
When on the “Big Island” I did that same thing with a small BM Emissary. Could not believe it held up!! Still have that Emissary, uncomfortable with no soul...but a big memory attached to that knife.

Thanks for sharing your day! Just fantastic.

Sorry to hear about your friend. RIP.

A short time ago I was talking about this ESEE JG3 in the EDC thread and mentioned that while I liked the knife, the sheath left much to be desired, kinda plain and worst of all zero retention (a big pet peeve of mine).
Well, after a few design exchange messages the man himself Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery put this beauty together for me. Exactly what I wanted for this knife including a wet formed upper area that provides perfect retention but still a clean and easy draw.
Thanks again Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery , I'm loving it. Took it with me today on a creek side hike.

Super happy you are enjoying it Keyopp Keyopp . Great photo’s as always, and it looks like a wonderful place to take a stroll. :)

Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure.

Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery cool idea for a thread and nice job on those scales!

Here's a little project I was working on last night. I still plan on staining it and possibly gluing it together. The pieces seem to sit together well so far. View attachment 1606595View attachment 1606596View attachment 1606597View attachment 1606598View attachment 1606599View attachment 1606600
What a cool project! I’d lean toward staining or just plain Varathaning it. Will be awesome to see when it’s done. Make sure to post photo’s here.

Glad you stopped in😎...you wouldn’t happen to have the time, would you? 🤣😂

Thank you for the kind words for Uncle Eric. He was one of a kind.

The water is still good to drink, it’s just very sweet at this maturity.

Took some of the dogs for a run and training. It’s pretty dry here, so I gotta keep it at a mile. I don’t want to carry water.

Afterwards, I took a drive back to the farm to check things out. Seen this blowing…

I worked to shut down the main to this section. Now the main is leaking….booooo.

Gonna be a busy night.

When it rains, it pours. 😕 Hope you got ‘er all fixed up relatively quickly.

One thing with living in the boonies…the power can sometimes be not so great in stormy weather…

Started up on some sheaths and the power decided to go out…😡 lol.

The two sheaths are for a couple family members who got two of my first proto Thistles. The original sheaths I made were crude and terrible…it was early leather working…you can see them on the left in that photo.

Luckily for me, they fixed the power and it was on the next morning!
Finished up my sheath project and a few other things.

I hope everyone has a great week!!

I took last week off and had a little work around the property “vacation.” I think I worked harder than I would have if I went to work.

Had a much younger cousin stay with me and help out. These young pups can physically work circles around me these days!

Did a bunch of bush clean up, had a ton of bonfires, and pulled some stumps…

Had a few different carries this past week to aid in the work…and they all performed their duties perfectly.

Thursday was so hot and humid that we went for a hike and a dip…gotta love water on a hot day.

It was great to have some help and I am very happy with what was accomplished. Far from finished, but a very good start.

That's my idea of a vacation Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery  Prefer to look around (especially outside) and see something accomplished over just seeing a long credit card bill at the end. ;)
Wish I could use two emoji’s…cause this made me chuckle and I liked it. ;) 100% agree, Ray.
