We had a few hours before attending a Celebration of Life for a friend of ours that passed.
We went down to the beach to swim and cool down.

I grabbed a coconut and my BK16.

After cutting off the stem, I work the knife around the nut, then cut these spaced out pieces.

Gotta be sorta careful, as I thinned this blade up on a King K80. The tip is zero ground, which makes for great penetration, but also means gotta take it easy on the prying.

After enough cuts are made, you can muscle off the fibers. I like using simple carbon steels, as sand will chip out harder edges.

A quick rinse in the fresh water from the river.

Take the spine and start whacking the nut around the circumference until it cracks.

Start cutting the meat and scooping out flakes. A fixed blade is way better than a folder at this, as there would be a lot of pressure on a folder pivot.

Not a bad snack.

I prefer kydex, as I can just rinse out the sheath in the river to flush out sand and debris. This is a cheapo no-name one. I just ordered another from

that will replace this one. Much higher quality and not to mention Al is a stand-up guy.
