Almost time to know (2012 Case/Bose) colab gossip thread.

Quick shot...apologize for the quality.

No apology needed, thanks for the pic!
What I am hoping to get a real good look at is the point. How is the point? The promotion pictures kind of look like the Copperlock blades, not real pointy if you know what I mean. I am hoping these have a real sharp point.

Looks like my hookup won't be getting any this year :(. I have a vacation coming up the end of the month, I've found a few other places that sell these. If they have any left when I get back from vacation, I will scoop one up. If not, to the Exchange I'll go!

Well, tomorrow my truck goes to the mechanic to get the knock sensors replaced. Don't think that will be too expensive, after looking at prices for the sensors and labor involved. With the vacation coming up this Friday, I think I'll have to hold off on this one. It wouldn't hurt to live off beans and hotdogs for a while, but not while I'm on vacation ;).

I now have my Case/Bose Antique Bone Lanny's Clip. Not as 'right-on' as my other collabs. There is blade play. Not a lot, but it's there. I'll whack it(gently) with a brass hammer and hope it tightens.
Blade is o.k. sharp, but not up to Rough Rider shaving-sharp standards.. The best thing is the pattern. Lanny's Clip is really one of the finest single blade folder patterns of all time.
I have a Menefee 3 3/4" L.C., 154CM, with ivory Micarta that cost $30 more than this collab. To claim that the Case/Bose collab knives are custom quality is marketing hype. Some of them might be close, but it's 'hit & miss'.

For the price I too have sold all my colabs except for one tribal spear. Most of them did have minor issues with either blade rub or slight blade play. Some of them have been great designs though.

That's sad. My case/bose is custom level quality. Guess it didn't hurt telling the dealer, "I will send it back if it has any of the following issues..(Issues inserted)...thanks for saving us both the time."

Roland, you have expressed displeasure with case Bose in the past, why buy them?

I'm a sheep. Gotta follow the herd, eh.
And, in this case, i really like the pattern as i stated in my post above. I have 3 other Lanny's Clip folders, 2 by Rick Menefee and 1 from Joel Chamblin.

Just got the LC chestnut. Upon inspection it has a slight gap, off centered blade, and uneven spine that is easily noticed. Nomally I don't really nitpick on these things but I paid quite a bit for this. Case customer service fairly good at handling these types of issues?

My .02, while Case CS gets great reviews I would want a replacement at that price point, not a repair.
See if your dealer has any more and press for an exchange. If he doesn't have any more, return for refund and buy elsewhere.

Good luck!

Having received both the Chestnut bone Case Lanny's and the Bladeforums GEC Trapper the same weekend, I can see where the extra cost went. The GEC was the best fit 'n' finish I'd ever seen, when it arrived, as it was the first to my door. I thought, there's no way the Case/Bose is going to top this! I was wrong. The bone/jigging is the most beautiful work I've seen on a knife. The grind is awe-inspiring. Almost perfect! Solid, with no gaps, completely perfect fit on the backspring closed, open and at the half-stop. Only complaint is there was a bit of the wire edge near the up-sweep on the edge that I had to remove. It has a pretty strong pull (7-8), most likely due to the placement far back on the blade, but not too hard.

If it is "hit or miss," I definitely got a "hit!"

Someone needs to post a pic of this one next to the 2012 Traditional Forum knife, just to compare the profiles. I don't have a worthy camera.

I ordered the ebony one. Haven't heard anything about when they may be shipping. If anyone has any information about them, please let me know.
