Alone Becker sighting!!!

I have a 9 and have been thinking about a 2. How well do they cut? They are quite fat, but does that screw with its cutting ability?

I just checked and there is one now. Its under Bios and packing lists. When you go to Bios, click on the picture of the guy and under his Bio is his list.

Its a very generic list though. They don't say what brand of tool anyone takes. Its just listed as knife, axe, etc.

Here is the list of items Wayne took.

1) 12×12 ground sheet
2) 550 paracord – 20m
3) Saw
4) Axe
5) Sleeping bag
6) large 2 quart pot
7) Ferro rod
8) 300 yards of single filament fishing line and 25 assorted hooks
9) knife
10) Leatherman multi tool

I've been known to carry that much kit in a day pack.:D:eek:

I think the BK2 is a wise choice for the environment they are in too. It's compact enough to stay with them on the belt yet tough enough to pry into a stump looking for grubs, dry tinder, or fat wood. It's shorter blade can still handle chopping well enough too. I think if I was on the show I might try to game it a little by storing some more fish hooks and another ferro rod in the factory scales :) Overall I enjoy the show so far. It seems a lot less scripted than most of the other shows out there. I do get a sense though that the producers have situated the players to make them respond in certain ways though. Things such as locating them near a bear den or across the bay from fresh water. It drives the players into some predictable actions.

The BK2 almost gives him an unfair advantage. Is there anything that knife can't do?

Ha! That was my first thought :D

Tradewater, thanks for the link. My phone didn't want to cooperate with the video player on the site, so I just watched the first 10 minutes of the show on the history channel app. I thought I'd just be living vicariously through all of you since I don't have cable.

Now I need to check out beachmaster's discussions on youtube!

The bk2 has the best cutting ability out of just about every other .25" thick production model knife on the market. It's, imho, the only one made from .25" stock that still acts like a knife, and not like a piece of steel with a grind on it. Also, I've never seen anyone have a problem handling it, either.

That's good to keep in mind. I have admired it for awhile, but I have a blade that is slightly thicker I have a helluva hard time using. It acts more like a wedge then a knife. I will wait and see if I can buy one at a good price sometime.

It was a pain to get sharp, and it certainly doesn't meat my standard of sharpness. It works for a massive hatchet, though. I prefer my BK9 to it. More practical, in my opinion.

No problem, I don't have cable either. Nice of the HC to post the show online.

I think a slingshot would be a good item for this trip. I have killed many small animals with one.

If Tradewater was on the show he would have a cabin built, kayak made a forge about done and getting ready to start on deer jerky for Christmas.

I can not get the show to run on my IPad ...... Grrrrrrr..... Am gonna got to HSO's house tomorrow to catch it......

E

up on my watch list next, after "hidden kingdoms" on netflix - incredibly macro video view of small creatures. like REALLY REALLY REALLY good.

Alone sound really generous with 10 groups of items...

Nake and Afraid (full eps on youtube), you get 1 thing, and your partner gets one thing, and you are nekkid...

why they don't make a "frog gig" type spear, and a larger walking stick/stpear tool right away in many cases is beyond me :D

Dick Proenneke, eat your heart out. So far, I like Wayne, wielder of the BK-2, the young dude who howled at the wolves, and the dude from Georgia who does the fantastic Julia Child impression. They seem to have their acts together.

On Alone, they have to manage all their own camera equipment and video recordings, Les Stroud style. Big time and energy suck.

I applied to be on the show.
Probably won't make it, ( I'm not that photogenic ), but it looks like fun!
FWIW, if I did get on, I'd bring my 9...

les spent a lot of quality time quality a few miles of the path 2-3 times.

but he rarely tapped out. when he did, it was epic.

i hope these guys have a serious backup bag... the kind that might help with something "very bad", and if they use it, they're tapped out, but hopefully alive.

the "push button for helicopter" device is a must of course. haven't watched yet, guessing.
