They each have a sat phone to tap out, and by tapping out I mean it takes 5 hours or so for them to come and get you. That poor dude with the bears, I wonder if the pickup crews bring the contestant a clean pair of shorts...

thanks to BF I was able to watch the first two shows and start recording. Now I'm going to have to check out the interviews and supply lists. Great heads up!

I got a chance to watch the first two shows. My money is on Mitch. He seems to be able to keep calm enough and to think critically instead of emotionally. He was the first to have fire and get food, now that he has found a good water source he can slow down and thrive.

Went over to HSO's Sunday and watched both episodes...... I have a good feeling about this one...... It kinda reminds me of the first UFC match...... Run whatcha brung and lookout ..... A lot of different approaches and we will see how they work.... A chance to learn from this one.... I have hunted similar country just a few miles to the north on Prince of Wales Island and when the skiff from Capt. Harold's fine fishing vessel let me off each morning it was always an interesting feeling..... They WILL be back, won't they??????....... No way to nav outta there, baby!!!!!!...... Wet, very very wet, VERY wet.....Chilly..... Gonna be interesting to me....... BTW, Wallace's original plan for our accommodations was a blue tarp and a 4x8 sheet of plywood....... I am verrrry glad Wallace's stash of blue tarps and plywood had become unavailable....... Would have made it but, it would have been little fun methinks..... Staying on the boat was quite fine.... Good chow and a dry bunk...... There ARE a bunch of bears in that part of the world..... More bears than at a picnic in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park even, and the Rangers have NOT culled the aggressive ones..... I will be following this one with interest.....

P.S. Wayne has exquisite taste in knives....LOL..... Check out Trade's links ........ eb

Man, I hated to see Wayne tap out so early. He was shook up by that bear though. I like Alan and Sam at this point.

I should have watched the episode before checking this thread. Bummed to hear Wayne is out. Another one down from Bears? Damn.

Having a close encounter with one of Nature's top predators will change a man's thinking on his place in the food chain. In his defense, the bear actually got aggressive with him. The behavior he described was more than just a curious bear I believe. Not sure how I'd do in a similar situation but knowing there are large predators about, I am surprised more folks haven't weaponed up. A baseball size club and a few spears around camp can raise a man's spirits when trouble walks into camp. I'm assuming firearms were off the menu for everyone.

Sam lives in my town so I am pulling for him.
I would have picked my 4. Although that might give a unfair advantage.:)

FWIW, that BCUSA thread has gotten more interesting. Three guys from the show, Joe (just tapped out), Dustin, and Sam, are all posting in it.

I am watching the shows, doing commentaries on my youtube channel, and I am in the process of applying for the next (or maybe 3rd?) season!

In all honesty, Wayne admitted he was camping right next to a "bear trail." These guys should've known to get away from any well used game trails, and set up strong, sturdy shelters first thing. I couldn't imagine trying to tarp it under all that rain, and with heavy predators around. Trade, and I had a discussion at the spring gathering about the order of the top 4 priorities in a survival situation. We agreed that there is no set order to acquire them, and that the individual needs to size up the situation, and prioritize. In this case, these guys needed a strong shelter first, then fire, water, and lastly food. Man, I really want to be on that show.
