Alone Becker sighting!!!

I hate seeing so many guys quitting because of the bears. I'm definitely not saying it isn't a valid reason to fear for your life and want to go home, but I'd prefer to see 10 guys surviving and their different techniques and strategies and have their reasons for leaving be because of actual survival issues and not just fear of predators. Maybe the producers wanted that psychological aspect to be a main factor in the show and things are working as they planned.

I took a look at the bios on history.com and I was really surprised that the guy who left first did not choose any type of knife for his kit. I know there are ax lovers out there who say they can do just as much with an ax, but I thought it was an interesting choice. In contrast, Wayne had 4 cutting tools: ax, saw, bk2:thumbup:, Leatherman wave.

Wayne and Joe were my favorites.... to bad for me.

The first guy who quit, Josh, attended Pathfinder school, but as you pointed out, by not choosing a knife, and if you looked at how he tried to use his ferro rod, he had no clue what to do or what was going on... a real shame.

I am rooting for Mitch, Allan, and Sam!

C M Rick, I don't know if they are still accepting applications, but I can help you go in the right direction if you like. Pm me if you are interested, as I am in the process myself.

Mitch is cool. I'm also liking Alan and Lucas.

Beachmaster and Rick, you guys are awesome. If I accidentally applied and somehow accidentally got chosen, I don't think I'd even make it off the boat.

I think the BK2 is a wise choice for the environment they are in too. It's compact enough to stay with them on the belt yet tough enough to pry into a stump looking for grubs, dry tinder, or fat wood. It's shorter blade can still handle chopping well enough too. I think if I was on the show I might try to game it a little by storing some more fish hooks and another ferro rod in the factory scales :) Overall I enjoy the show so far. It seems a lot less scripted than most of the other shows out there. I do get a sense though that the producers have situated the players to make them respond in certain ways though. Things such as locating them near a bear den or across the bay from fresh water. It drives the players into some predictable actions.

Interesting take, Bill; did the producers thoroughly examine all the items? What about their clothing? You could omit something soft from the 10 item list, and stuff it into your clothing and stitch it up. Tinder comes to mind instantly.
Also, it looks to me as if that BK-2 has been modded.

Thanks, Beach! I really appreciate it, man.

I caught episode 4, and wasn't surprised to see that guy leave (forgot his name). He just was not prepared for that environment at all. He looked defeated at drop off.

I was totally surprised to see Mitch take the fish back to his camp, clean it, and cook it there. YOU NEVER PREPARE FOOD AT YOUR CAMP! EVER!!! I couldn't believe he did that. Just stupid.

I wonder what the rules were for how they had to film themselves. Might look fishy if they're shown starting a fire with birch bark or fatwood or a vasaline infused cotton ball
