One of our first big Beckerhead benefits is around the corner, closer than you may think, but I need some input from you guys, in all seriousness, and I need some thought put into the answers, kidding around is fine, but this has purpose and directly relates TO YOU. If I can't get some good feedback, our benefit is lost, or at least misplaced, and we lose out, not the other way around.

I need to know what kind of outdoor gear you will be buying next. Be specific enough without actually listing model numbers, say, I will be buying a Snugpack sleeping bag, or, I will be buying a Goingear Firesteel, or I will be buying an Olicamp Cup. Ya get it?

Just sayin,"Um, I want a new backpack" ain't going to cut it, or "Er, I guess I would want a flashlight". Nope, that neither. Like I said, this is for YOU.

You have 3 days for all active Beckerhead members (there is a list posted, if you don't know, <snerk>) to chime in with their input. This a Beckerhead Exclusive deal, and it doesn't matter weather you are gold, basic, or registered, you just have to be a Beckerhead and I must have your email address. Savvy?

Good luck, and lets get going on this.

Moose

Next two major purchases...

1. A Maxpedition Falcon II pack with a couple of Maxpedition accessories (large cellphone/walkie talkie pouch for GPS unit, "single sheath" for 6P flashlight holster). It'll all be olive drab. Also for the same pack: a Camelbak Storm Reservoir and some green Grimlocks.

2. Hennessy Ultra-Light Explorer Hammock with Side Zip

ETA: Aside from the pack accessories, those items may be a little bit "major" though. Smaller gear? I'm going to pick up some micarta scales for my Becker Necker and some micarta scales for the forthcoming Becker/Ritter collaboration. I also may get a clip kit for the Eskabar sheath.

Speaking of the Eskabar, I found a good way to cut sheath rattle on that one. I know Bladite used plastic from a drink cap. However, I wound up taking one of those compressible foam earplugs, mashing it flat, and sliding all the way down into the edge side of the sheath. Rattle gone.

1. Eagles Nest Outfitters SingleNest Hammock in Red/Charcoal
2. Extra Becker scales to play around with some different grip/mod options and whatnot.
3. Heatsheets Emergency Blanket
4. Aquamira Frontier Pro Ultralight Water Filter
5. FireSteel Bunker (that is the model by the company Firesteel dot com)
6. SilNylon tarp. Wish I could get more specific, but I haven't narrowed it down yet since I have never had one. Kinda shootin in the breeze on this, and was going to ask you as to what you might suggest. If you have a particular one, insert that instead of all this drivel.

1) well, already just ordered a bunch of random stuff in the last 2-3 weeks: sheaths, flashlight(s), old patrol pack, rope, knot books, county comm goodies, survival dvds....

but looking forward a week or five:

2) a number of random KaBar knives, some Becker, some Toooj's, i've talked of this before. (i keep pushing this off due to expenses #1 though)

3) as with Guyon, i'm lookin strongly at a Maxpedition Falcon II pack

4) "Generic" Pack covers. different sizes?... SilNylon? only one of my packs has a cover, and i rarely use that pack.

5) lots of 550 cord

6) laser range finder to go with wind meter and gps (can't be too prepared!)

7) some kind of large folding saw - Silky Bigboy?

... but nothing campy/major is coming to mind otherwise... yet.

i'm the complete opposite of an ultra-light hiker (heck, i pack 3-5 knives easy) but i'm now trying to minimize my gear this year (after the spending spree of 2010) since i find myself researching more gear on my free time than actually hiking...but if i must spend money, i would buy in this order:

1. 5-gallon bpa-free water containers (can't have too many backup water)
2. snow peak titanium trek 700 mug
3. smartwool socks
4. under armour cold gear under pants and long sleeve t-shirt
5. highq allround stainless and carbon moras (can't have too many of them)
6. micarta scales for my bk-9
7. victorinox swiss army swisstool black oxidized multi-tool
8. maxpedition 12"x5" bottle holder
9. dmt 8" coarse dia-sharp continuous diamond stone (i have the fine, extra-fine, and extra extra-fine coming this thursday).

Beckerhead #32

Cool! In no particular order are some things I've been considering for a while:

1- GoingGear 'plain' 1/2" x 5" (or so) firesteel
2- Maxped Falcon II? Not sure if it's built for a 6'4" individual though
3- GoingGear firesteel striker
4- Some kind of water filter - maybe katadyn hiker? Jury is out on which is 'best'
5- Milspec M65 jacket w/ liner. I tried to trade for one, but ended up giving up a $40 knife for an aftermarket version that had been hacked up, restiched, had the buttons cut off for no reason, and didn't include a liner. [/vent off]
6- Some Micarta for my BK7!!!! This is a big one.
