While we all wait for Swamp Rat to annouce their new line.........Any good alternatives to Swamp Rats out there with similar features/steel and of course price point? What would you get?

I heart Ranger RDs are made by Busse, at least it is pretty same design. Also check Bark River.

Thanks, Vassili.

Not to be a broken record but RANGER KNIVES.  And I think Justin would enjoy hearing that he doesn't make his knives.:o

As I understand it Justin got his original stock from Busse, but all those blades have been used. He's making his own knives now.

I would also say Ranger, Becker and at the risk of being flamed, cold steel srk, a good solid blade. Swamp Rats aren't the only game in town, there are plenty of great blades out there. I think Rats/Busse are good knives, but overhyped, and at the minute, unavailable.

Check out the gallery I have a picture of a custom in the works from Justin. The RD line is great, but if you're looking for something different he'll work with any steel.

Did anyone say Ranger Knives yet?

Ranger RD9 and RD7:

Ranger RD9, Busse Basic 9, Swamp Rat Battle Rat, BK-7 maybe

How exactly are they over hyped? Swamp Rat doesn't really advertise, and Busse seldom does. . .
Maybe I should go and check my mailbox for Busse promotional DVD and thick catalog of knives priced well above market value. . .:p :D

what about the ontario rat series? how does that line measure up?

Another good suggestion- I have heard good things, and the company stands behind their product.

I think he is referring to how they are held so high above the competition by the members here, rather than advertising.

What could a Busse in the same blade length do that my SRK can't do? Besides drain someone's wallet?

Not rust. or at least not nearly least as much.

And it looks like someone seconded the overhyped issue.
I'm not agreeing with you. I think SRKW and Busse make some of the best fixed blades on the market for sure, and that they have an awesome warranty and customer relations, and that they deserve every bit of the praise they get. I was just noting that when a person referres to the hype surrounding the companies, they are most likely referring to the user hype rahter than any sort of advertising.
