Altoid PSK for BSA

Thanks for the info on the Katadyn tablets Runner. One question for you. Is the oven bag for carrying water or something more?

Others have mentioned Benadryl. Other than my concerns about providing medicine to any boy other than my own, I'm at a loss as to which type of Benadryl would be best for this application? There's about a half-dozen different formulas.

yes the bag is for carrying water. on the other I don't give out medical advice sorry. thanks for be a scout leader. the skills I learned in the BSA I have never forgot

Here's the first Altoids PSK that I put together for my Becker sheath's pocket. I should probably update the photo, but this gives a good idea of what I considered needed gear. The potable aqua was in the sheath with the PSK. The ziploc is a gallon size freezer grade bag that attaches to the tin via ranger bands and duct tape wrapped around the seam of the tin.

Included in kit is 50ft of 12# spyderwire fishing line, benedryl & Ibuprofen, small med, couple of sparklite tinder, strike anywhere matches dipped in wax, Vic SAK w/scissors, BSA Hotspark, LED light, Ink pen cartridge, Sewing needle, 2 trick birthday candles, 25ft leader line, stainless wire, safety pins, couple of fishing flies, hooks, split shot and paperclip.

I slid the tin to the bottom of the pocket and the bottle fit, resting on top of the tin and the hook & loop flap cover held it tightly in place.

Ask your pediatrician or family doctor. They will be able to tell you what to carry for boys that age.

Longbow50 - nice kit

I use those little HOT SAUCE bottles from the MRE's and fill them with bug juice, and then seal the cap in wax. It is enough to keep the bugs off of you for a night if you have to stay over. At least you can get some sleep without being eaten alive.

I also put bleach in one of those bottles. One of those bottles will purify 3-5 gallons of water depending on how cloudy it is.

The down side it the bleach will need to be rotated in the kit, but so do the tablets I guess.

The plus side, you can have them practice with those little bottles until the water smells like bleach and the water is treated. They will actually use the kit before hand which is something they won't do with tablets. Also, they can not spill the bleach or bug juice all over. I have to touch the neck of the bottle to my water bag to get one drop to come out when treating water. I also have to dab the bug juice on my arms and face and then rub it in so I am not using to much bug juice in one area.

Those little bottles are pretty handy. I use them instead of bug juice wipes and keep a few of them in all my pockets.
