I've tried many ways to keep my knives organized. Ideally I like to keep them stored, but easily accessible, so I can find what I am looking for, or enjoy CEing and CFing them, or maybe systematically wiping and oiling then!!
I find specimen drawers are perfect for all the things I wish to do, and I am always on the lookout for such things! I walked into a used furniture/estate findings store yesterday, and this little chest caught my eye!!
I don't know exactly what it was designed for so many years ago, but it is perfect for what I have always kept my eyes open for!!! Nine 1 5/8" deep drawers, and the bottom 10th drawer is 4 1/2" deep for oversized objects!! 12" square makes room for 20-30 knives each!! I think my search is over!!!Specimens 1.jpgSpecimens 2.jpg

And it looks nice in the house without screaming “knives”. I know my other half doesn’t like the look of knife display stands or similar for home decor. Great find on that.

Beautiful cabinet, Charlie, great find!
Charlie, at 20-30 knives per drawer times 10 drawers, that only comes to a small fraction of your collection. So not sure how your search can be over?

Depending on budget, one of the large/extra large Snap-On/MAC/Huskey/Etal tool carts and chests might work?
They have a weight capacity of up to 3,000 pounds, so should might(?) be able to handle the weight of your collection?

Nice chest you found. Don't look like it needs refinished, either. 😁👍

Thanks!! It does look like it belongs in a "normal" house!! 🤣 🤣

I actually have 50 - 60 other specimen drawers total, tucked in my den!! But none look like nice furniture, as this one does!! But my wife is tolerant - so far!! Not a good idea to push these things!!!:rolleyes:

Beautiful and perfect for the job!

What a find Charlie- those drawers are darned perfect for Knives- now with your skill set with Woodwork, is there room enough to panel-pin a wee support border of say 1/4 x1/4 then placing another tray on top of? You could do a full covering layer that sits just above the lower layer, or, on the top layer - a half Layer from the back to the center that still leaves the Bottom layer exposed.

Man I wish I came across something like that! Can I say it again - What a find!

That is perfect, Charlie. Great find. I use a craftsman standing tool box. I like that way better.

Wait...

Are you telling me you actually keep your knives organized and not just tossed together in a basket?
