Am I the only one who disliked micarta?

I love micarta scales. But I also love G10 as well.
I think they are both excellent but I give a slight
Nod to micarta over G10. Personal preference.

I've been seeing a lot of people wanting micarta over G10 or other materials lately, and I'm a bit stumped. I highly dislike how after a couple days carry, most types of micarta will darken by oils on your hand and/or show fading from very light wear. I also am not a huge fan of the cloth like feel on most types of micarta, doesn't feel like a material for a tool for me, but that's just me. Anyone else feel the same or similar? I'd much prefer G10 to micarta.
Knife is tool with handle , not fancy looking thing to show on forums .And handle is part of that tool where we hold that tool with our hands ! If you EVER use your knives in different circumstances you will understand advantage of that UGLY micarta ,cork and rubber over that good looking plastic G10 and over many beautiful hard wood , unfortunately most of them are treated with some chemicals like tru/danish oil to lose their good GRIP qualities :D

Oh I'm sorry, I just use a knife about 4-6 hours at a time for my job. So I happen to know nothing about handle materials, because you know, I never use them.

Tastes vary, I'd take Micarta over G10 in most cases. Functionality wise they are essentially interchangeable, both will last forever and be tough and grippy. What puts micarta over the top for me is the variety of visual textures like Paper, linen, canvas, burlap, etc.

I don’t get why you’d open a thread taking a contrarian stand on personal preferences, then be surprised people don’t agree with you.

I love micarta. I like G10. My G10 handles feel heavier, although I don’t honestly know if it’s a denser material, or I just have it on heavier knives.

I like both G10 and Micarta but definitely prefer Micarta. I like the textured softer look of Micarta against the steel on knives.

I think its great.

It IS made of cloth, so you really can't "blame" it for having a "cloth like feel."

Its like saying wood is no good because it has a "wood like feel."

Given the choice between the two materials (G-10 or Micarta) on a knife, I will almost always choose G-10.

You know who really popularized micarta in knives was Bob Loveless. I believe he knew some stuff about knives.
Micarta is more grippy with a fixed blade than G-10. But I still prefer G-10 or natural materials on a fixed blade. I dislike rubber, plastic, or something similar on a fixed blade for outdoor use. I like C-Tek on a fixed blade too.

You can certainly make G-10 grippy. I like carbon fiber too on folders. It is generally pretty smooth.

I like both but prefer micarta for fixed blades that I use both covered in sweat and/or water. Micarta seems to become more grippy when wet where G10 is more slippery.
