Am I the only one who doesn’t like Spyderco

I have 5; they are very well made very well thought out, they offer so many blade steels, they really have their long time models dialed in .There is no negative i can really think of except some arent the most attractive looking ,some are ugly but even those are highly functional.

Though I own more than my share of other makers, Spyderco is my favorite for daily carry and hoarding. They are thin in the pocket, well designed and construction, and (to me) have a certain aesthetic appeal. But no brand is perfect for everyone, so you gotta find what works for you.

I bought a Delica in 1995, because I'd heard they were so great. It took a few weeks to appreciate the functionality of the knife, but to this day, I haven't warmed up to the looks of most Spydercos. Combine that with a few suboptimal experiences with customer service and I concluded business with Spyderco some time ago. I sold or gifted most of my Spydercos and I only have one that I carry, and that's only rarely.

I have a few, but not a big fan. I did carry a C-44 Dyad for a number of years though, not because I was a Spyderco fan but because it did what I wanted it to do. Other than that....I rarely ever carry one as there are better options available to me.

I have a Para 3, but I'm not crazy about it, or any others, for that matter. That hole makes the blade sort of crazy tall (from edge to spine). It's a well made knife, but just not my thing.

For me a lot depends on where they're made. Not a big fan of Japanese or Chinese Spydies. USA, Taiwan, and Italy rarely disappoint.

I don't own a Spyderco and have a fair few knives. I'm sure from reading reviews etc. that they are great knives BUT here in the UK they are quite expensive. I'm not a big folding knife person (I've got maybe 15-20) preferring fixed blades and their fixed blade offerings are expensive for what you get imo (at least in the UK) and I can purchase a better blade at a more reasonable cost so probably won't own one.

I don't own one, nor do I plan to. I am turned off by their ubiquity, especially when someone asks for a recommendation. I dislike them because they are popular. I'm sure they make good knives, but there you have it.

Spyderco is one of the top tier makers of knives. I prefer the hole over any thumb stud.

They are one of the most innovative companies in terms of trying new steels and materials.

I only buy USA made and Japan made Spydies, but every one I have is excellent quality and very sharp.

The Siren in LC200N and the Shaman in Rex 45 are both great knives in a catalog of great knives.

OP, why don't you like spydercos?

At times I don't like all the things that Spyderco does. In the past they used red loctite to assemble their knives and it was easy to strip their fasteners. They are also not fond of customers disassembling their knives to maintain them. I like CRK or Hinderer since they expect the customer to maintain their knives. CRK has the spa service to freshen up a well used knife. Spyderco as of late has gotten proud of their product.

On the plus side I do like how they bring out new steels and the quality of the Taiwan knives. Sal and Eric are good people and do support the industry.

I love Sal, He is awesome and one of the few knife company owners that actually answers questions for people on the forums.
Also he continually uses new steels which is great.

I love a lot of their models but of course there are also a few butt ugly designs as well.

One thing I don’t like is the warranty. If you accidentally break a blade you are screwed and can’t pay to have a replacement put in.

That’s what I like about ZT and Benchmade, you can purchase blades if yours gets broken or worn down over time.

I’ve bought a dozen or more different models over the years and resold almost all of them. A Dragonfly in the car glove compartment, and a Tasman Salt 2 fully serrated on the basement work bench are the only ones that remain. I’m not sure why, but I just never seem to bond with them despite my best efforts.

To me it’s the asthetics and the grips that have never appealed to me. I really appreciate the consistent sprint runs of new steels, the blade designs just don’t catch my eye. FWIW, I’m not a fan of Benchmade either. I’ve always preferred the looks of MT, CRK, ZTs , Curtiss

"As the title states. I have never owned or had the desire to buy a Spyderco. I’ve had friends who love them and I’ve handled them, but they are just not my cup of tea. Am I the only one with no love for them?"

I doubt you are the only one who doesn't like them but you might be the only one who hasn't tried one yet formed that opinion. I try to keep my mind open about tools and not base opinions on looks alone. In fact looks don't enter into it at all. :)
