I haven't yet tried a large, mainly because I know it won't push the Voron out of my pocket - there's just no point in paying that much for a knife I know I won't carry. (Yeah, I've done it before - and I did say yet because I'm sure I'll grab one - but between my new watch and some other recent purchases, I'm just inclined to hold off for a while longer.)

As far as the small, it works for me. It's better in (my) hand than a small CRK; but not as good as that darned Iron Pup I'm always mentioning. I have two SHFs...as I've already posted elsewhere the first was fantastic, the second didn't open smoothly at all (but still far better than the last 3 CRKs I purchased). I sent it back to Spartan after the thumbstuds came out, and they fixed both issues to my satisfaction.
The main thing I dislike is what Blues Blues mentioned - that unsharpened portion at the plunge.

I’ve only handled the large SHF. Always wondered if the small SHF would be more comfortable than a small CRK. Hmmm…

Gonna have to find somewhere to handle one.

"Poor man's Sebenza" pardon the insult.
My view, maybe not yours
I've owned a few knives that were called that over the years, and I liked all of them enough to carry/use...but, since you've called it an insult, allow me to ask Have you tried at least one SHF? I am clearly not a CRK fanboy; but I have purchased at least 9 in my attempts to like them. (I only have 6 now...and I'll admit to having some appreciation for them)

Personally I prefer my small SHF over the small Sebenza I had a while back. I have a PJ small SHF that is extremely smooth and excellent fit and finish. I wasn't sure about it at first, but it has grown on me and is right there with my thumbstud ESV for favorite small knife.

I don't buy knives that expensive, so no.
I called it an insult because I'm not trying to start an argument over what really amounts to be my own opinion. With the etching designs and not as expensive as a sebenza, I referred to it as such. If that means I don't get an opinion then I'm OK with that 👍

What I appreciate most about SHF's, thier factory sharp is actually sharp.
I haven't needed to touch up the blades on any of the ones I own.

The action is always stiff at first, which is fine for me, I actually look forward to breaking them in, and once they are, excellent action.

You're entitled to your opinion; but why not simply say they don't appeal to you rather than use an expression that you referenced as in insult? Seems even more strange if you haven't handled a CRK, either...

XXL XXL I've had my eye on the small Kraken (satin blade) for a while now. I was on the verge of buying one til I overspent elsewhere, despite the fact that it's the same knife (it would, in that respect, make more sense to buy a large)

After owning 3 CRKs, two Inkosis and a Zaan, it's the SHFs that have stuck around. I'll get a tanto Zaan eventually, but my SHFs are excellent for my daily needs. Honestly, I like the blade edge termination, it eliminates a snag point when I am using the knives to cut through cardboard or rope.

One thing that accelerates break in considerably is a disassembly and cleaning with a thorough regrease with your chosen product (I use TW25 as I have a lifetime supply from being a multiple P series SIG owner)

Well, they always remind me of William Harsey, Jr.'s Air Ranger he did for Gerber some years ago. I never quite warmed up to that one, either.

I can understand this for sure. I usually choke up on knives, so CRK’s work for me.

I have disassembled and cleaned the Royal Flush and it has the best action of the three.

I decided that I want to break in the Kraken without disassembly, just for kicks.

The Koi has been the closest to broke in action straight out of the box.
I'll probably clean and grease it anyway for fun.

One tip for dialing in the pivot is to use plumbers tape instead of locktite on the threads. That way you can adjust easily and there is no cure time.

I’ve had to break in a couple of mine, but that doesn’t bother me at all. I like fidgeting with them in the mean time. My 2nd spartan babe the most recent purchase from Arizona custom knives had all kinds of crap in the pivot and smelled like straight lighter fluid. It also had thick white crap on both sides of the washers. Had to clean all that up and now she is ready to go.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy CRKs, and the tanto Inkosis that I owned previously were awesome knives, I just didn't bond with them if that makes sense. Something about SHF just speaks to me 😂
Oh for sure. It’s a good thing we all like and bond with different knives or this hobby would be boring!
