I like Spartan knives and have some of their fixed blades. However, in my folders, I like flippers over thumb studs. That is the deal breaker for me. I do have a Spartan Poros and like it very much.

When I first saw the plague doctor, I thought it was about thr coolest graphic I'd ever seen on a knife. Then I saw the viking longship... And the warthog.

I really like their graphics, but to my aesthetic eye something about the handle appears off. The lines of the knife just aren't as clean and appealing to me as something like a Sebenza.

I sold mine. The lack of sharpening choil bugged me. I liked the knife ok in general but not enough to justify the price. A Magnacut Sebenza Insingo made me much happier.

Aside from when I wrote that last week🤔, I think, its all a blur nowadays when's the last time you heard that line!!!!😉.
Probably a decade for myself.......

It’s use pretty regularly between my brother and I, along with a few other lines. :) Haven’t seen the show in a looooong time though.

There seems to be a lot of love for the SHF. I just don’t see it. I must be getting old and going crazy. Lol.

Why the SHF just doesn’t do it for me…

The ergos on the SHF just don’t work for me, unfortunately. Full stop. :( I also haven’t handled a SHF that the action was exceptional or acceptable to me.

I really wanted to love the SHF. Tell me why you love yours! Also, photos can’t hurt a poll thread. ;)
I appreciate the artwork factor, and the only ones I consider buying are art pieces where I like the engraving and anodizing.

But they're heavy, thick, and sharp in a lot of places they shouldn't be. I was told by a big SHF fan one time (I think unironically!) that I should just wear gloves while using one LOL.

I dislike the lack of a sharpening notch or choil, or really about transition at all from the blade, but mainly it's the sharp edges around the lock interface and on the jimping.

I have the 4" Plague Doctor. Don't carry it much, because I don't want to mess up the ano and I bought it because of the graphics. I've thought about buying another as a user, but the blade geometry is a bit thick for my purposes. I'd probably get a regrind if I was going to carry it.

As far as the SHFs, here's my $0.02...

I got reeled-in by the SHF thread and bought a few. I'm not angry that I did. From an aesthetic standpoint, they are quite beautiful...and that was my attraction in the first place.

With that, at least for me, they are more "show" than "go". On mine, none of the "actions" are consistent. They range from "good" to "less than satisfactory". For $500+ folders, this "fixie" guy expected a LOT more. Beyond that, like many here, I would also like a sharpening choil.

Will I sell them? I don't know. Maybe. Would I be heartbroken if they were not in my collection? Probably not.

This is it for me too.

The lines and proportions aren't very appealing to me....on blade and handle.

I handled a few in a shop in Arizona and they seemed well built but weren't very comfortable either. A big part of that was sharp edges all over the handle. They may have corrected that by now though??

Have all the respect in the world for them. Also, what a value. Gorgeous graphics, low cost damascus and premium American build qaulity at a fair price.

I have a little one and it is just not for me at all. Ergo is way off for my hands. Action is not the type I seek and just plain old too small for a primary carry.

Really wish they would do a flipper on ceramics.

When I get around to trying a full size, imagine it will be a much better fit.

Meantime, I'll continue to admire them :)

I don’t own any SHF’s. Just looking at them, they don’t call to me. Besides preferring flippers to thumbstuds, the artwork just doesn’t do anything for me - it’s like spray painted graffiti on a Volvo. They’re just not for me, and there are plenty of others that are.

Imagine growing-up with the nickname "J.J." and having the whole World yelling "DY-NO-MITE!!!" at you, for the first two decades of your life. :(

Musta been good times ;)

My thought is that I generally like the SHF. If I am going to carry a large, hard-use folder, I really don't think I have anything as thick and bombproof. However, I find my CRK large Inkosi to be more refined. I like the titanium on steel lock up. I don't like the unsharpened bit nor the sharpness of the handle. Not deal breakers, but for a $450+ knife I expect it to be at least de-horned.

I probably prefer the PJ SHF slightly over my Adamas with the quibbling between the two being that I think the SHF has a more bombproof lock up (ie no omega springs to break), but I think the Adamas handles cutting tasks much better. I would not feel under-knifed with either in a bad situation.

Being that I am participating in the Small Knife Challenge currently, both those bruisers and even my Mini Adamas are hanging out at home....and I don't really miss the weight. I may pick up one of the small SHF with a graphic of some point as a hard use EDC. Not that I need one, but I do enjoy coming up with silly reasons to justify my hobby.
